I just thought I'd let everyone know that I've been very unhappy with ND's response to the swap over to the M3.

Firstly they refused to insure it under any circumstances which is laughable given my more than insurance friendly profile.

Then, they have said I will get back less than half of the premium I paid for the Coop back in June, despite me using less than a quarter of the policy.

Now, to add insult to injury they are not prepared to provide a refund until up to 6 weeks after the policy was cancelled.

Very unhappy with this service, and I'd advise anyone considering ND to ask some probing questions about possible implications of swapping cars after the policy has started.

I'd say that there stance is probably pretty standard for the insurance industry. Their refund rates will be laid out in their policy documentation and they will allow a gap before refunding to make sure that they are not going to be notified of a claim (after which you'd receive no refund at all).

I agree it's not great, but it's probably the same service as you'd get from anybody else.

Same sort of treatment I got from Greenlight when I cancelled a second policy with them.

I cancelled the policy after less than six months and got about one-fifteenth of the premium back. Well, I will when the cheque turns up.

In short: You'll have few complaints if you don't cancel the policy - if you do it's a different story...

Totally agree Cosmo, I am in exactly the same boat with ND now, the insurance on my coupe was 2 weeks old they offered a 40% refund if I cancelled or told me my refund would only be "about" £50 if i transferred cars on the policy, this is on a £550 policy. My car has changed from 300 bhp to 150 bhp or group 20 to group 15, but still they don't recognise this.

I will not be renewing with them

I thought ND have a 14 day cooling off period - check the policy documents - I had to tell them about it myself

Sorry to hear your in the same boat Jim. I cant see why they refused your car though. If I was being cynical I would suggest they are refusing to handle changes mid term on certain vehicles as its more profitable to cancel the policy.

Can those in the insurance industry suggest our next move if ND don't come up with the goods.? although the fact they are getting bad press on here should be incentive enough for them to cough up.

what would happen if you paid for the insurance by monthly payments?

that way they havent really got the money until the policy expires.

surely they cant take you to court for the remaining payments?

perhaps we should all pay monthly, and suffer the small increase in our premiums.

If you pay monthly then (almost invariably) what happens is that, effectively, they loan you the value of the full premium and you pay it back to them in monthly installments. This is why an APR is given for monthly payments, generally.

This means that if you stop paying it is the same as defaulting on a loan (which is what you're doing) and they are fully entitled to reclaim it.

The time period is unfortunately inevitable. Although the insurer can calculate the return immediately to them its hardly a priority and is therefore not treated with much urgency.

Are ND a broker or intermediary and which insurer did they place you with?
