Has anyone fitted the Honda s2000 push start button to their coupe. I am tempted as the kit is on sale on ebay for £50.

If so is it easy to fit? If you bought the kit does it include a relay?

I think it was Fishy Dave who fitted this to his first coup - he also had a brief 'how to' if I recall correctly.

Maybe worth PM'ing him to find out?

it should come with a relay, all the wires and a little wiring guide. will be hard to get flush if you want to put it in the same place as le/plus/[6] button is. maybe better to put it down by the gearstick? anyway, it's not the simplest of jobs and requires lots of patience but does look quite slick with "engine start" glowing red.

I'd be tempted to have a go at this if it's not too hard. I would definitely put it near the gearstick in front of the drivers window switch tho.

I know little about cars, as i am about to show, but how does it work in regards to the code key and the immoboliser?

I mean if all u have to do is push a button whats stopping somone from breaking into the car and driving off ?

Theres an LE starter button on ebay,with the relay aswell,it should be easier to fit should it not ?

Be aware that that one on ebay doesn't look like it has the cover on it (the red button has a cover that goes over it, silver in my case, with a black surround for the hole in the dash). Worth checking before you bid.

i'm not sure it would be easier to fit as i think the dash on coops with buttons as standard is slightly recessed to acommodate the button and coops without button as standard have a flush dash?? the ebay one would be good for an le owner who wanted to replace their existing button or, god forbid, a plus owner who wanted to change from silver to red.

I was considering this for a while it can be fitted in cigarette lighter position in 16vt next to gear stick or much the same position in a 20vt. also note the honda button is quite long.

Ahh see now you have got me now. Was all prepared to fix it in the same place as the LE/Plus cars and now looking again it does look where you have put it.

It took me about 1 1/2 hours to fit mine in the same place as Mavric. The hard bit is joining the wires at the back of the ignition switch. Thw S2000 comes with most of the bits you need, if you want isolate the button with the engine running you will need another relay connected to one of the alternator wires.
the below info came from the old forum but not sure who wrote it.

" I have just installed a Starter Button, not the Honda S2000 one though. However, it should be not much different to mine. I did what Sean mentioned, with regard to getting access to the wires from the ignition barrel. It sounds like you have removed the top and bottom covers from the steering wheel. With a small screwdriver I prised off the bottom of the two connectors going to the ignition. On my 20v Turbo, the wires were Orange, Orange/white, Blue. Blue/White. The top connector is the one you want, so prise it away from the block. You may need to get your hand on the far side to apply pressure while you push with screwdriver on the near side. Sounds tough, but mine came away quite easily. With the connector removed, unravel the protective covering and tape, to reveal the wires. The large RED lead is obviously the +12v supply straight from Battery. The smaller RED with black stripes is the cable connected to the Starter Motor solenoid.
I snipped each wire about 5-6 inches from the connector. I used Bullet connectors to re-connect each cable, with a new wire running from each one The +12v needs to be reconnected to make the supply to the Ignition barrel (hope I'm not teaching anyone to suck eggs here ?). The RED/BLACK cable can be connected or not, it is up to you. If you do connect, it will give the ability of using the ignition to start the engine, as well as the Starter button. I did it this way, just in case the button or relay failed at some stage.
Your relay, should be a 30AMP car relay, like mine ? I situated the relay, in the area at the far right of the dash, where you can pull the end panel off. It has other relays in there, and the place where the tweeter sits. I found it sat there quite snugly. You need to connect the newly attached RED wire (+12volt from Battery) to the plug numbered 30 on relay. Connect the new wire from the RED/BLACK cable (going to Starter motor) to plug 87. I connected plug 86 to GROUND. That leaves the Switched Live from your Starter Button to connect to plug 85 of the relay.
Not sure how your S2000 button looks at the back, but you will need to connect a switched +12 volts (I took mine from the ORANGE/BLUE wire going to either one of the electric window switches). Connect the wire from appropriate pin on the starter button to plug 85 of the relay.
When you press the Starter button, it will send the +12 volts, taken from electric window switch, and route to plug 85 of relay. As plug 86 is earthed, it will activate the coil in the relay, and will throw the switch in the relay, to connect plug 30 to plug 87. Voila, +12 volts to Starter motor, and car starts a treat. "

There's a Honda S2000 starter button fitted by the previous owner of my car.
It's works, I'm happy!! The car is a standard 1998 model.

You just put the key in, turn to the stop and press the button.
I love winding up people who say "oh my new car has a starter button"
and I say " My Coupe started the trend back to starter buttons 8 years ago"

It's in the same place as the LE/Plus starter button and the chrome ring around it goes so well with the alloy heater/speedo rings!!

I'll put some pictures of it up tomorrow so you can what it looks like.
And before you ask, NO i'm not going to take it off and see how it's wired up

The previous owner told me he got a auto-electrics guy to fit it.

Sorry I have come in late on this thread, but does using the key and a button, not defeat the point of a fancy push start button? I thought this replaced the ignition key, but you still have to disarm the immobilser the car with your fob? - as you can tell I dont know much about car electrics.

You still need the key to unlock the steering lock and disarm the imobiliser. The alarm is not linked to the imobiliser. It is deactivated by a transponder in the key body (the blue bit).

Aaron, you still have to use the key, turn it to the normal start postion and leave it there, and press the button.

Yes, the starter button is utterly pointless indeed! But it looks nice, is fun to press and will impress other people

As the current user of Dave's old starter button, I'd say it's a great touch. I always reach for a starter button now when driving other cars.

I might have to get one of these sometime - does anyone know of any major things you can do wrong installing one yourself?

Jim - you dont live that far away from me buddy, anymore comments like that and I'll walk (possibly cycle) over to yours and make you stand in the corner facing the wall.

My car starts fine BTW - just smokes a bit and gives you a face full of oil for good measure if you'r too close with the oil cap off. If you'r able to tweek the throttle cable your too close in case anyone's wondering!

I'm not worried about the electrics bit - just locating where everything goes + what could happen with the code unit etc. if you manage to get it wrong.

c2d - you're missing the point. Starter buttons are cool

Always good when the M.O.T. tester thinks ha has broke your car and sheepishly comes to ask if you have had problems starting it recently!

My 4 year old daughter loves it as well - Can I push the button dad?

i have a toad alarm with R/C/L will a push start button effect this? as when i open the car if i dont start it within 30 secs the immob cuts in...will it make a difference with a push start button?

No. It is the same as tuning the key! I have left the key start enabled as well so I have a choice.
