Hello! wave driving

Just a quick post to say hi. I've only been in coupe ownership (for the second time) for a week, and thought I'd say hi.

The week has certainly been interesting rotate from a leaky coolant bottle that has at some point been in the front passenger foot well and then made it's way to the boot. So have been trying to dry the passenger footwell and the boot this week. To a snapped t peice from the coolant bottle resulting in the car dumping coolant on the second day. Thankfully as I was parking up, and not the day before when the coupe was making it's 250 mile journey home. Then today having slight wiring issues with the.... Nicely named yellow connector of death smash. Where the car wouldn't prime the fuel pump and wouldn't start. Anyway after some fault finding and wiggling the cables the car fired into life.

All in all it's good to finally be back in a coupe. Just a coupe of issues to sort out. Main one at the moment having an exhaust leak that's making its way into the cabin. I'll take it into a gauge for them to have a look.

One more thing. Massive shout out to Joe knight from fcss. I think his username used to be county cruising? Maybe still is. He's helped me alot this week. So thank you Joe. bow

Welcome Ikon

Snags make having a coupe all the better.
Or so they tell me.

Joe is great. He is country cruising

Welcome Ikon,

Sounds like a crash course in Coupe ownership from the off there - but niggles sorted and she will see you right.

Yes Joe is great- and will see you right!

Where are you in East Sussex? The further from the salty sea the better for your coupe!

Regards

MM

Hi!

Well.... If I walk outside my home and look to the right . I can see the sea about 200m away rotate. I'm just on the costal road in Peacehaven. So, yeah... I think it's going to be a battle. Before the end each summer I'll have to take it into a garage to treat the underside I reckon and tidy up bits. But the want for another coupe out weighed falling through the cars floor crazy. After cleaning the car today I've noticed water on my tool box in the boot. So will have to try and find out where that's coming from... And pretty quickly too.

Water on the toolbox - better than in the toolbox laugh

First check would be the boot seal, make sure there are no small tears on the underside.

Some people have 'plumped-up' the seal by threading windscreen-wash hosing or similar through it.

Years ago you could get replacement seal from FCSS (Countrycruising on here) but I'm fairly sure he's run out, not an easy part to get hold of now.

Hi Edinburgh,

Haha yeah true. No one wants to use rusty tools in what could end up in a rusty boot rofl. Yeah I came across the post about feeding in silicon hose to the boot seal. I've ordered some in the hope that fixes the problem. If not I'll contact Joe and see if he has a solution.

Could it be coming through the rear wiper? Remove the black cover from the motor pour a small amount of water around it whilst looking

Hi ikon, and welcome. Second time of owning a Coupe, what was it that brought you back to this car? And what have you been driving in the interim?

Hope you can get the various issues sorted - there’s always something unexpected with a new car purchase!

Regarding the boot seal, I used a product called rubber fit, a Wurth product recommended by someone on here, there's a thread somewhere. I was very sceptical but it's worked. Other products are available that do the same thing.
You are not alone in returning to the coop fold, they get under your skin in a way few others can.
Welcome back.

@hammie,

I can't rule out the rear wiper motor. But it seems to from the right hand side of the boot. I'll undo the cover and have a look.
Perfect! I'll order one and hopefully that'll be nice quick fix
I've all ready tried the 6mm hose trick but it's a right sod to push through the boot seal. I've ordered 4mm version to hopefully be able to push it all the way through.

@respace,

Thanks I'll have a search for it. Yeah they definitely do get under your skin. However, This one is so far trying to tear through my skin.

@echodelta,

Yeah absolutely always something with a new purchases. Especially second hand cars. I always said I'll get another coupe at some point. I very nearly got one last year. But decided against it. A year later and I still had the coupe on my mind. I've had three cars since my old coupe. A mk1 ford focus, bmw e60 525d and my current daily a 2020 abarth 595 turismo, which is a right joy to drive. I honestly don't think I'll ever get rid of it. It's just so much fun to drive. Then again I said that about the coupe all those years ago and then sold it for peanuts.

Several suggestions to aid getting the tube in, I have an electricians draw rod, it's a thin flexi rod with a hook on one end, feed it through, tape the tube to it and pull it back through. A fibreglass tent pole maybe small enough diameter to feed in. Lubricate the tube with silicon spray or WD40/GT85.
