Get a spanner (or grips) and put it around the base of the knob, and give it an almightly belt with a rubber mallet - worst case scenario, your knob hits the ceiling of the car.
Oh, and try not to follow through with the spanner or mallet, otherwise you may need a new windscreen....

Lol! Well, one big yank... (that's one BIG yank!) and my knob came off in my hand! You like? I like changing gear isn't like "hand-rape" now either. Also fitted the rings that came today. I'm beginning to enjoy my coop now!
Coopless!

Matt, Did you remove with the aid of a heat gun? I'd looks like you retain the lift-up plastic collar for selection of reverse gear. Is the top of the gear stick threaded or just plain? I am assuming the latter. Presumable once leather knob is off you just fix metal knob with a grub screw, is this correct? Thanks

Job done. Heat not really the answer, trying to get through thick leather without burning. Good old brute force in the end (no screwdriver tapping).

dearbro.. well 1st of all, bigthankyou to our host letting me join this lovely forum.. lov u!.. oyesyes! i just had mine removed.. yup i was wondering if i sud turn it like a screw?! then i learn here, that its just a pullout proces.. n so i gave it a try.. n yes.. u got to grab it firm n turn left n right.. to n fro.. just to kinda loosen it.. its glue on.. n then u gotta really pull it hard.. like our dearbros says.. apart from 'pull it like theres no tomorow'.. also.. 'like yourlife is dependin on it!!!!!'.. till u r realy exhausted.. take a break.. cigaret o coffee o beer.. then repeat the cycle!!!!! again n again n.. until u feelike givin up.. keep on goin!!!!!.. you'll see the whitelight.. impt note: pullin force sould be upward n forward, because theres a plastic hook inside facing front! so the knob comesoff from the back 1st.. yup.. enjoy yourself mydearbro.. o n happynewyear to all of u!!!!! wish u n family bhapy n healty always!!!!! ps: er.. ya.. perhaps wearin a fullface helmet n gloves mitehelp.. gday!
