How much heavier would a Coupé 20v Turbo weigh with a full four wheel drive conversion?

Wild guess at 200 - 250kg on top of the 1400-ish of a standard car

subframe, diff, driveshafts, hubs, brakes, suspension, propshaft

BTW - just noticed your signature - welcome to the 400+ club smile

Bit of a thread ressurection, but I've been wondering about this again recently.

I'm really struggling to see how a 4WD conversion would add this much weight. The standard car already has a rear subframe, hubs, brakes, suspension etc.

How much can an additional set of driveshafts (presumably similar weight to original), a rear diff and a prop shaft really weigh? Clearly there will be a few more bits to make it work does this really weigh somewhere between 150-250kgs as per Nigel and other's responses to this post?

OK - let's see if my wild guess was anywhere near...

Rear diff - 40-50kg
Driveshafts - 10kg each
Rear uprights / hubs - 10kg each
Custom rear subframe (increase over standard subframe) - 20kg
Various tie rods, trailing arms etc - 10kg per side
Propshaft - 20kg
Revised gearbox - extra 10kg over standard

I make that about 160kg, so the extra 40-90 kg in my estimate is the set of balls you must be carrying around to contemplate such a modification... ;-)
