Jings Frazer that's horrendous; primarily though Karen is ok if not a bit shaken...
I'm sure I've seen bonnets on ebay recently, based in Europe, but sadly not in yellow - would you consider fibreglass assuming there'll be insurance cover?
There is only 3rd party insurance in Bulgaria if a car is more than 10 years old.
I do have parts such as fog light, headlight and bumper, but no bonnet. I should be able to get a 2nd hand bonnet in Bulgaria (Hopefully).
As I am not at home I am not sure of the damage behind the bumper, but I think it should be OK. The only question is the chassis rail. Karen did drive the car home and said that other than a coolant leak it was OK. So, hopefully no major issues.
Probably need a radiator and maybe A/C condenser (again).
No damage behind the wheel, so not too bad. Looks bad though. I guess hitting something more immovable would have caused more serious damage, but being a deer it SHOULD be more superficial. Fingers crossed.
We will see, but should be fixable once I can get to have a close look. Probably won't be till November sometime. At least I can make a project thread!!!
Hi Fraser, sounds like Karen is OK and that's the main thing... could be worse: my late father wrote off not one, but two separate ambulances hitting deer (and complained that the garage ate the deer before he could, in the latter case!).
G_Man, would be great to get the bonnet from you, but as you say maybe a few quid in transport.
Neil, Yes. The main thing is Karen is fine. This morning she wanted to break the car for parts but I said no way I can fix it. This afternoon she has calmed down and is good with storing it till I get around to fixing it. Karen put the car cover on so that she doesn't have to look at it. Made me laugh. Too much work in it over the years to break it. Just one of those things. Gives me something to do in my old age!!! I still love the car anyway. Not many of us one owner cars from new Neil.
Some years ago whilst on holiday in France (I had my Sprinty back then) we had an encounter with a deer at night, on the way back to the gîte. It happened just after we passed the obligatory deer warning sign!
We got off incredibly lightly, having stamped on the brakes a soon as the headlights picked it out in the end it caused two small but deep 'v' dents on the very edge of the bonnet, plus a broken radiator grille. I think the deer was running across the road at a bit of an angle, away from us, which I'm sure helped. Never found the deer.
Karen can probably be thankful that the bonnet at that point is very solid and that it didn't go over and into the screen.
At least cars are easier to sort than people.... possibly.
Years ago, driving in the Highlands very late at night, I noticed some cats' eyes that were green, and slammed the brakes on. A couple of red deer leapt across the road in front of me - and one of their friends jumped into the side of me. I got out to check for damage (to the car and the deer) and the thing just stood up, shook its head, and followed its mates...
No damage to me other than abrasion to the paintwork, probably because I was stationary by the time it hit me.
