Stepsons Major and Minor had them a few years ago. I recall that they make lots of beeping and crackling noises and are redundant when shouted into whilst in the next room from the other person using them.

Is that what you meant?

I'll check when I get home as we have some although ours may be a slightly different model (pretty sure they're Binatone though). Ours have the same redundancy issue that Jim mentions although that is certainly a user issue on our part.

It seems to be a difficult task to explain properly that if you're shouting loud enough for the other person to hear through normal channels then it's rather pointless to be using a walkie talkie.

Up yours Photobucket.

I can't really comment on the effectiveness or otherwise of the radios due to the circumstances of their use!

These Binatone Terrain 750s look more heavy duty and have better reviews than the Motorola 230R

It's the Terrain 750's that we have here. I can vouch that they are more than capable of relaying breakfast orders up and down the stairs but we (OK so I mean miniWishy and microWishy) haven't done any further testing than that.

Is there anything that you'd like to know about these ones? MiniWishy hasn't snapped anything off in the two months that he's had them so I would suggest that vouches for their robustness.

Up yours Photobucket.

Yep I must say they look good, thanks!

Not that we have littl'uns any more although it's not stopping them from producing laugh

Why do you need them? We found radios to be universally crap, especially in towns and cities.

In fact the most reliable means was the chat tool on the Nintendo DS handhelds!

As Barney says; and I'll think of a lot more uses. I now seem to be the honorary roof-checker in our 4-storey building so having good comms with ground will be useful; also Assen trip next year.

But hey, I've always hankered after a set laugh

Two of the cheapest mobiles, or hand me downs, and a coupe of PAYG sims would be a better bet.
