After 35 years of not wearing a watch I decided last year to buy one, but quickly came to the conclusion it would be wiser to buy two - one for everyday/sport and one for occasions where I know it won't get damaged.

My budget was much less than yours and I had very specific look requirements for both.

I picked this up for £50

And this up for £200

I'm still delighted with both. Although both watches have big faces I wanted the sports watch to be chunky and the other to be very slim, which you only seem to get with quartz.

Good luck finding the watch for you. I had lots of fun searching for mine so don't choose too soon.

One of my favourite expressions at work is "A man with 2 watches never knows the right time" borrowed from a former work colleague and used to describe the situation where you have two different methods to estimate the (numerical) value of something (eg: a property of a stream in a refinery or petrochemical plant), but no idea which one is more accurate.

Maybe it doesn't apply to watches any more?
