Would I benefit form a Gtec II? #15533

Hi there. I know the GtecII chips are suitable for modified cars and that you always have to run on Super Unleaded, but do you think it would be OK for me?

I have an origial Gtec chip at the moment, new std turbo, a Pace sidemount intercooler and I am running 1.2 bar boost controlled by a PRV. Oh, and a K&N panel filter and a Supersprint catback.

I would like to run the car at 1.3bar for my sprint meetings next year and could do with every extra BHP I can get.

Do you think I would benefit from a GtecII or should I stick with the original?

Any thoughts appreciated!

I think you should stick with the G-Tech 1. You do have an uprated intercooler so I suppose you could run one but they are probably more beneficial in conjunction with an uprated turbo.
Also what with the threads about potential problems using the G-Tech 2, I think you are better sticking with the tried and tested first chip.

Coopless!

Would 1.3 bar be pushing the efficiency of a std turbo too much and would your side mount keep the temps down enough for 1.3

I'd stay as you are

The combination of the std turbo and the PACE sidemount and running at 1.3 bar will end in tears on any chip. The std turbo aint that effecient and likewise the sidemount doesn't offer much benefit over std jobbie. Your inlet temps will end up being a 100+ for sure with those settings. Best advice would be to look at a FMIC first then you could at least push the boost a bit more with any of the GTEC chips. Then consider some kind of hybrid turbo if you want more power as teh FMIC will only give you less chance of cooking the engine.

Yes, I have read the posts for the Gtec 2 "teething problems" and agree I should stay with the original for now.

You dont think I would get away with running 1.3 bar though?

The sprint is only very short (about 45secs for 1 lap or about double that if it is over 2 laps) so the engine wont be cooking hot.

If you think 1.3 is too much I will keep it at 1.2 and have to get some weight off the car.

i think in the real world or track you would never notice the difference 0.1 bar would make... just stay safe

You would definitely see an improvement from the ignition advance of the Gtec2, but I would leave the boost at 1.2 bar max via the PRV. I can send you one to test if you want to see how it compares and post the results... just pm me.
