Just had a run in with some scum coming to the door trying to sell me goods.
Scruffy bloke with a backpack.

When I told him that I wasn't going to buy anything from him, he immediately told me to "cloud9 off you cloud9" while he was still on the doorstep.
He then threatened that he would bite my nose off, kick my head in etc because I was old and couldn't do anything about it when I insisted he left the premises.

Sod that, my wife is at home so no bastard threatens us and I made an instant 999 call to the old bill who said that they had someone on their way to the area already following another call about the same bloke.

Hope they get him.

In the meantime I am bothered about the safety of the coupe and the X1/9 parked here.

Updated before posting as the old bill have been round.

He was waiting for them to pick him up at the top of the lane and immediately admitted that he was out of order being abusive.
As I thought, he was an ex offender trying to rehabilitate himself.
I could have taken matters further, but, if he was trying to sort himself out and the cops were happy that he would not come back, I saw no point in adding to his problems with another arrest.

He told them that he was frightened that I was going to beat him up!! I would have done too if he had gone beyond threats.

As the cop said , it's a nice area we live in and some people get jealous, the difference is that I worked bloody hard to get it.

The main thing is my wife was not hurt.

I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

Sounds upsetting, Pete; glad nobody was hurt. It also sounds to me as though the bloke might have mental health problems. That doesn't make it ok for him to go around abusing and threatening folks, but if he recognises that he has a problem (as his waiting for the police suggests), where can he go to get help?
I think you should be commended for not pursuing the bloke as it may get through to him that not everyone is against him. Of course, when you hear on the news tomorrow that he's torched the Town Hall, it might look a bit different!

How distressing for you both. Glad you're ok.
We had the same thing a few months ago - dodgy looking bloke with a back pack trying to sell me stuff to clean the car. I told him I didn't buy from doorstep sellers.
He produced an id card and told me he was an ex con trying to go straight and he was legit. I said good luck mate but I still didn't want anything and he moaned then left.
I spoke with a pcso last month and she said as long as they behaved themselves and weren't nasty or pushy it was ok.
It ain't going to work, dodgy people calling at 8pm in the dark and rain selling stuff you don't want.

As Jim says, sounds like the guy had mental health issues (not unusual for ex-offenders).

There is very little opportunity for ex-offenders to make a straight living. Yes it is tat and it is unwanted tat they are selling. Most of the time they get a door in their face.

Even if not buying, look to help those trying to go straight. Give them a bit of food from the cupboard, some encouragement, ask if they have kids and if so give them something for the family you no longer need etc.

NB they should have formal identification relating to doing this.

This one didn't even try to identify himself Mark, just went ape-shit when I said I didn't want anything.

The cops did say he acknowledged that he had anger management problems.

By contrast, later this afternoon whilst I was laying paving slabs on the drive, another pair of ex-offenders called. They could not have been more polite, showed ID and explained what they were doing.

They sold me a new pair of riggers gloves having noticed the state of the pair I was wearing and we shook hands as they went off.
They were disgusted when I said what had happened earlier, and explained just how such behaviour affects what they are trying to do.
