Can anyone explain to me why it is such a big deal is about moving the World Cup to November and December to avoid dangerously hot conditions?

This is 7 years away. It's surely not too big a problem to bring the beginning of the world's domestic leagues forward by a couple of months.

I'd rather that than see a single player die from the stupid temperatures.

I'd have said the temps would be similar in November and December, around 30 degrees.

But it's a game and one that has zero impact on my life so I don't care if they play in on Mars in Moanuary.

I think the problem goes back to the bidding and awarding process.

Qatar, The United States and Australia were bidding for a World Cup which is traditionally (always) held in the European Summer. This is historic and due to the vast majority of players who play in the WC being based in European leagues. The disruption to European Leagues therefore kept to a minimum.

FIFA knew it would be stupidly and dangerously hot in Qatar during the Northern hemispheres summer, yet they were still awarded them the WC.

I know FIFA what to spread the WC around but Qatar should never have even been considered in the bidding process.

I do hope the FAs of Australia and The United States kick up a fuss and put the spotlight on the *corrupt FIFA executive.

*Am I allowed to say that?

Just to add, like BM I don't care what time of year it's played, I won't be watching.

As always, money talks, will always remember their 3 person posse , when the result was announced. Total disbelief or very good acting !

One of the comments on the radio made me chuckle! Something along the lines of you wouldn't offer the Winter Olympics to a country with no snow!

Which is in effect is what has been done, the World Cup has been offered to a country where it's environment is unsuitable for the event!

I think whatever happens will highlight how out of touch FIFA really is and all the disruption should surely push people to take action just wonder if we have to wait till 2022 for it to happen or if people will kick it into touch now!

There is no doubt it will go ahead no matter what has happened otherwise Fifa would be sued to Kingdom come to cover costs on the building and loss of earnings due to a cancellation of the contract!!
Christmas World Cup will be a bit of a novelty! xmas
