Had a lucky escape today in the Hengrove area of Bristol, luckily only doing a little over 30mph. The wheel came off looks like the bolts came loose. Had new tyres put on a couple of months ago so might not have been tightened by the place that did it. Had me and missus been on the motorway or dual carriage we may not have been as lucky. Only damage I can see if the brakes, wing and side skirt. The cars in garage/bodyshop being checked out now.

Omg! That is a very lucky escape and thank goodness you're both ok. Damage looks nasty though, such a shame apart from the shock I bet you're gutted, I would be.

Fingers crossed really. Hopefully can replace the wing and side skirt easily I'm just more worried if the mechanical side of things are damaged etc like gear box and drive shafts.

One thing that terrifies me is that in 2 month since you had your tyres, you've not checked your wheel bolts. i dont find that strange. do coups have a habit of having wheel nuts come lose without either tampering or not being fitted correctly?

Much admiration for your positive stance. Fingers crossed for the body shop's evaluation. You probably don't know about sprint blue coupe [registration R919JJR] and nor can I find the thread, but by comparison lucky is the word.

Really? A rotating threaded mass that has some high thermally driven cyclic action going on, and you wouldn't think to check once in a while? And it's none standard fitment. To the OP. Hope you get it sorted. You may also want to look at the other wheels.

Debating whether I should go to the tyre place. Because they are the last to touch car and I have only done 300miles since. Hard to prove isn't it.

Invoice usually says you should check bolt tightness again yourself. Adam16vt beat me to it!

Glad no one was hurt. If it had come off after leaving the garage you'd have a case but 300 miles and a couple of months later then it's your responsibility to have checked them. Nearly happenned to me last year a few weeks after the wheels being off at the garage. Luckily I felt a vibration and heard a knocking noise and stopped to find the nuts on both front wheels were loose.
Bad luck about the damage.

Shitter.
Spacers and or wobble bolts or standard fit? There's been a few wobble bolt failures on here over the years.

Good news! No mechanical damage to the gear box, engine or other parts just cosmetic damage and I need a new wheel hub.
Looks like the spacer may have caused the bolts to come loose.
Looking at £600ish to repair the damage.

Bolan died by hitting a tree or some such being driven around by his partner, don't think his 1275 lost a wheel.
