Was almost tempted with a 1999 s500 but the rather complex suspension put me put me off, so got a 750il instead. I do love a good old barge once depreciation has worked it's magic.

What are you looking at Phil, Gangster or Hair dresser? You'll need to grow a mullet for the convertible I’m afraid, it's the law judge

Surely following Layer Cake, Nobby is currently in the gangster's ride?

Talking for S500's I saw one on the M25 the other day and had the plate 5UBA.

Si - If you have a spare £10k lying around.. smile

S500 convertible?? Never seen one of them Shifty?

Nothing about being a gangster, more about they are relatively cheap and would be great for wafting the family out in luxury at the weekends. I am trying to plan out things for when I come home.

Been looking at

Merc S500 or s350
Lexus LS430
Merc 430
Lexus GS430
Audi S8 late old model (52 plate)

Lexus LS430 would get my vote.

My mistake, the Thames valley trader mixed a few into my search.

Have you considered a 6 series BMW, dropping in price...

Yes I do like them but there is just not enough (lounging) space in the back. More of a 2+2 IMO

I looked at the 7 series (745 and 750) as pointed out by Luke above but thought they were too damn ugly! Saying this, they all are apart from the GS430 perhaps. But, it's about the creature comforts and luxury with these bad boys smile

There really are a few great motors to consider. Nothing about the speed, all about the cruising and relaxing.

Also look at the Lexus V300, that's a Jap import GS300 with the 3.0L twin turbo engine from the Toyota Supra.

My mate had 2 of them and they've very comfortable, roomy, electric heated/motorised seats etc., and fast.

There are 2 on ebay atm.

If you want it for cruising and generally wafting about then the Merc S class is probably the best of the bunch.
Unless you can find a good old Bentley! laugh

Turbo R

Jag xj's being looked into! Thanks, they just seem small in the rear?

I have owned two gs300's the mk1 sport and the mk2 sport. Nice but always issues with wheel wobble, especially on the mk2 despite changing the pads, disks and suspension components. Never got to the bottom of the issue and ended up selling it. So, been put off these now. Was a great drive though.

I've not been in the new shape Limo (they do a nice LWB one as well) but the 90's incarnation had loads of room for legs (head was a bit more iffy for me at 6' 4"). I was fine in the back of an s type so I assumed that Jags big cat would be massive!
The r version got rave reviews on TG from all, everything comes as standard and the CATS suspension is brilliant. I looked into a first generation R when buying the coupe but the wife said it was for the older gent.

I can recommend the x308 xjr, great car. Owned one for 18 months and loved it, though the supercharger noise does become addictive which will leave your wallet empty, I averaged 16.4 mpg in my ownership. They are fairly cramped in the back, and the boot isn't much better either. Only got rid of mine due to tinworm on the rear subframe & front chassis legs, and the need for an m5. +1 for the cats suspension it's great.

This really isn't helping the urge I have had for an XJR lately! I'm going to be looking at them before the end of the week at this rate!

XJR for the older gent? Nonsense! I have wanted one since I was 18! 6 years on the urge only grows stronger! Or if money ever permits, an E38 7 series with an E39 smile

Give in! Take one for a test drive at least. Cheap to insure on a modern classic policy, pretty strong mechanically, just watch out for the timing chain tensioners. I'd have another xjr if one came along without a doubt. Also I've had a couple of e38's and many e39's, all have been great reliable cars.
