Funny, but when I got up this morning I had plans for the weekend that didn't involve 2048 at all...then somebody sent me a link.
Arg!
Anybody else playing?

The best tip I can give you is to keep all of your 'building' to one edge of the grid. So, for example, I'll get to 128 in the bottom right corner and then start building another 128 in the square above it, eventually adding the two of them together to give 256 in the bottom right and start building another 256 there.
My aim is to end up with the right-hand flank contain 256,256,512 and 1024, from top to bottom. Because I'm using the right-hand side for this in most games I'll never slide my grid to the left.

I did have a look round t'internet last night for tactical hints and that method (as well as keeping the right hand column full) seemed to be seen as the way to go. As of yet it hasn't gained me a 1024 but I am getting to the 512s a lot quicker and neater than my previous rather haphazard and random method of chasing numbers around the screen.

I think I need to get a grip, on the one hand I've just got a 1024 but on the other I'm aware that I haven't yet gone back to work since lunchtime.
I should really get my work done as it would be fine for me to go early today if I'm up to date and then happily carry on at home but no.....I 'm going to stop browsing the forum and get straight back to my game.

I just had a go to see if I could get 4096 Got to a 2048, a 1024, a 512, a 128 and a 64 before I had to shift the grid up with the RH column unfilled and that cocked everything up.

You utter, utter... I may never speak to you again. Heh... All I needed was another 8 in column 1, then I could have combined them with the 16 in column 2 to get 32, dropped the other 32 on top of it, moved the 64 across onto the one in column 3 to make 128, doubled it up with the 128 already in column 3 and then moved the grid right to have 512, 512, 1024, 2048 in column 4 and that would have been it, 4096. Buggeration.

The job! I knew there was something I'd forgotten to do. Funnily enough I'm working on a presentation about social media and the workplace.

The one thing that I've found now that I'm being more methodical in my approach is that, much as it it appeals so my sense of neatness and order, I now spend more time trying to keep a perfectly symmetrical about the diagonal stealth bomber type formation as oppose to doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
And just to clarify "doing what I'm supposed to be doing" means getting a 4096, none of that real world crap going on here anymore.
Up yours Photobucket.

Still go back to this and, whilst waiting for an MOT this morning, managed to get an 8192. Total score 112616.

Chapeau!
I'm struggling to get 4096. I get nearly there but then cock it up by getting to this configuration:
0111 0111 0111 0111

After a few ridiculously close attempts to get 4096 I finally did it this afternoon. Don't think I'll be chasing Emjay's 8192 though.

I was on the point giving up on this until I figured out about stacking up the numbers on one side, so I've reached 4096 and a score of 47444 but need to try harder to reach 8192. Anyone got to 8192 or 16384? Anyone tried with a l larger 5x5 or 6x6 grid?

One of our resident lawyers has hit 8192. I'm sticking at 4096 so I can deal things outside in the real world.
I'm trying not to sucked back in although I did have a little dabble with the Doctor Who version this morning although I gave up not too far after they turned colour as I realised that I didn't have a clue who any of them were.
