Do they fit in the rear in place of the standard speakers?

The rear speakers are installed on the rear 3/4 cards. You're better off securing the 6 x 9's to the chassis. Check the ICE FAQ for links to pictures on how to secure the 6 x 9's to the chassis.

It's worth thinking about sound deadening while you're in there. I used builders flashing tape, as it was cheap and seemed to do a good job. There's a good thread on sound deadening in this forum somewhere.

Checking for rust down in the rear 3/4 panels while the door cards are off and seal the pininfarina badges with silicon.

Cheers for that Gunzi.

My car is very soundproof as the work has been done before. Rear quarter panels have been treated and badges sealed up etc.

I will have a look at the ICE FAO, cheers.

Thinking about it, fitting the 6x9's where the old speakers were is not ideal as it will lose a lot of the sound.

Wonder if anyone has fitted it to the rear shelf?

Have you already purchased 6x9's Biggenz. Not much room in the rear shelf. Unless you want people in the back to hear, one of the best set ups is separates up front a bit of bass somewhere in the back out of the way.

Obviously not what you asked, but for the driver to listen, you don't really need some thing in the back other than a bit of bass.

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

I rarely have anyone in the back of my car, so it's mostly for me.

I want all round good sound and just feel it will deafen the sound a lot by fitting the 6x9's in the door cards. I've always had big sound in my cars before, but I'm not after everything shaking to bits anymore so will probably fit a small 10" sub in the boot.

Just bought some SoundStream 6x9's so will see how they sound first of all.

Do not touch the rear shelf, it is too small anyway and is an important structural part of the car

I have 6x9 subs in my rear quarters they work well! they are hard to get hold off though, but you could use normal 6x9's and use a crossover to take the treble off!

you can come listen to mine if you like, im partial to a bit of dance too!

Nice one. I'll fit normal 6x9's as I want a bit of mids and treble to come from the rear.

I might just fit a small sub in the boot to balance it all out.

I wonder if anyone has fitted a sub straight to the rear of the back seat?

Normal 6x9's will do just fine, you do loose some of the higher frequencies mounting them behind the cards, but it's not too bad. Use some thickish MDF to create a spacer ring so you can mount the speaker flat (if not the basket will distort very slightly if you fasten it straight to the metal)and then use some flashing tape as a cheap alternative to seal the panel and speaker mounting plate.

You will have a good amount of bass from that (speaker dependant). You may not even want a sub once you've heard it.

Treble and mid from the back is nasty!!!

you only want bass in the back as it mess's up your sound stage!

I think it's a lot about preference and driving position, but I find the card clips a lot of the higher frequencies so if you've made a good job of installing you get some good bass, some mid and not a lot of treble.

I listen to all sorts and it seems to work well and I like the way it sounds smile .

It's at the top of this forum.

The 6x9s are a great upgrade from the standrd Fiat speakers. I have focals in the back and they do sound good.

Why are people struggling with 6x9 when you can get similar or better performance from a decent set of round 6,5", fitted perfectly simple in the OE place..?
Preferably a component system with separate tweeters. You can put the tweeters in the rear shelt facing up, so the treble reflects forward against the glass.

Wel to be fair round 6.5s still require work to get in. I would never fit any speaker to the OE place as that was attached to the flimsey rear interior panel. An MDF panel fitted to the car metalwork is the way forward but requires more work. 6x9s can be fitted without MDF to the metalwork, although not as good a solution it is still far beter than the OE solution.

For the best sound you really should consider a set of decent components up front and either fit some 6x9 subs in the rear quarters (if you can find Genesis P69's they're great but don't come up too often) or just get a sub in the boot. Avoid brands like Fli/Edge etc that you get in Halfords...much better to get something like a used Alpine instead which will sound miles better. I had a pair of 12" Type R's in the last car....awesome!!!!)

All run off a 4 channel amp (again avoid the cheapy cheap ones and look for a decent 2nd had amp)

Will sound miles better than speakers in front and behind as it'll give a better front stage and not pull the music from the rear which really messes the sound up.

If you don't want a sub i the boot and cant find any 6x9 subs, I know a couple guys who've fitted some 2 or 3 way 6x9 speakers in the back but disconnected the tweeter(s) and just ran them as a pair of small subs. Won't be as good as the P69's (and definitely not as good as a real sub) but better than nothing smile

I think sub in the boot is the way, then you can ease off the bass on your new 6.5" system's front+rear. No rattles and great sound!

I can safely say, the 6x9's in the rear of mine sound absolutely gash. You have to make mdf baffle plates and make sure it's an airtight seal if you want any form of decent sound.

I've just fitted a complete new sound system in my BMW and with decent tiny little speakers and a small sub I completely kill the sound of the Coupe.

I agree with you it will lose more than you wish..Im following this subject for a long time now and still cant get it that people spend a fortune on nice speakers and then mount these away in the rear sides., if your looking for some more low lets say below 125hz than your waisting your time (sorry folks)..I have been thrue this last year too .Mounted 6 x9 in place of the orginal speakers rear left right but the sound (read more bass)was also disapointing ...2 tweeters and a sub will do much better and is less work. Im thinking now today 27/08/2013 to try 6x9 underneath the rear window on a car used for spare parts just for a try out ...im curious !!
