Ok, here's the spec I've gone for:

Pearl effect Sepang blue
Black Nappa leather
High gloss black styling package (black grille/window frames, etc)

20" Matt titanium rotor wheels

Options
Equipment package:
(Bang & Olufsen sound system, MMI Navigation, Bluetooth, Dynamic Steering, Push Button Start, keyless entry, Memory electric function sports seats)

Sports Package:
(Dynamic ride control suspension, de restricted top speed, Quattro sports rear diff, sports exhaust, carbon design package for engine)

Assistance Package:
(Adaptive cruise control, lane guidance, reverse camera, auto dim mirrors)

5 year unlimited mileage warranty

Then the usual equipment that comes on a gulf spec car such as sun roof, carbon inlay door trim, leather arm rests, etc etc.

It's going to take 5 months to build and ship it so I'm expecting it around June/July time.

Servicing is every 15,000kms, the servicing are a minor and major alternately. The minor is £240 and major £520.
Insurance is £2,000 so back to my 1989 205gti insurance premium frown

I went to the showroom today and had a quick drool over a red one while I went over the figures with the sales man. I've booked an hours test drive on Saturday just to make absolutely sure I'm happy with it on a long cruise drive.

Nice motor, but 2k for insurance? Do premiums work differently over there? I am of course assuming you're not a reckless yoof with a backwards facing cap?

It simply goes on a percentage of the value of the car, I could be a reckless yoooof and still pay the same. Next year will be cheaper as the value of the car drops.

Makes sense to me, sounds like a good system.

Get some pics up when it arrives as it sounds like a lovely spec you've got.

That's an aftermarket performance exhaust Shifty, the exhaust in the sports pack is pretty quiet unless you select 'dynamic mode' that opens up a valve to bypass the baffles in the silencer and you get the V8 in all it's glory.

There's no one-upmanship going on and I'm sorry if I gave that impression. Some guys like the off road scene here and spend the weekends in the desert, others like the fast car scene, either way, this is the only chance most of us will have to own and run cars with V8s hidden under the bonnet.

There are very few roads here that aren't littered with speed cameras but the few that aren't are amazing, Jebel Hafeet is the mountain road often shown on Top Gear, there's the coast road to Khsab and another unfinished boarder crossing road which just comes to an abrupt stop at the top of a mountain, all fantastic driving roads so it is possible to stretch the legs of a nice car if you want to.

Finally had the build date back from the dealership, it goes into production on week 11 so I make that the second week in March.
Delivery expected in May after a month on the ship.

Holy moly. 443.9 bhp and 430Nm...... that is some serious V8 grunt. Congratulationes Monsieur 'Bo.

I wish I had that kind of cash for my mid life crisis..... I'll stick with my £900 Coupe.

Hold on... I'm having a multiple mid life crisis.

* Coupe (number 2) - check
* Motorbike - check
* Campervan - check
* Woodburner (makes your chest hairy) - check
* Gransfors Bruk axe - check
* Stihl Chainsaw - check
* New girlfriend in her mid 20's - still working on it.... hehe

Well I think I can start counting now, got an email fm the dealer, the boat arrives on the 30th Apr so the car should be offloaded from the boat and cleared customs by the 3rd May.
The dealer has been instructed to leave the wrapping paper on the car and not to wash it during their PDI's. Once they are done the car is going to gtechniq to get a new car detail and the windows tinted, it will then be transported back to Audi for delivery.
I'm working over in the states from 26th Apr to 10th May so I'm hoping it's all sorted for when I'm back laugh

My luck with new cars is pretty horrific but here goes with a sad tale of the Audi RS5.

The car arrived on the 30 April, I was away in America but no problems, I've waited 4 months so I can wait another few weeks.
Got back very excited, went straight to Audi, paid for the car and insurance and arranged for the registration.

When I was there he sales man said "it's down stairs if you would like a sneaky peak". The car was due to go for a new car detail and I wasn't going to see it until it came back but I thought 'what the hell'.

It was fresh out of the transport bag but still looked great.

This morning i received the call you never want to here "James, we've had a problem with the car"
Basically the Audi valet parking guy had reversed a Q5 into the drivers side rear quarter behind the wheel.
I was told by the sales man that he dent could be massaged out and it was going to the body shop for a repair.
I said don't touch it, I'm on my way to see it. This is the damage to the car:

I immediately refused the car, that dent cannot be worked, it's a body filler and paint job, not something I want on a brand new car of that value.

I'm really not sure what to do now, I'm absolutely gutted about the whole thing.

What would you do/have done guys?

Exactly the same as you and refused it.

Considering you have never actually taken possession of the car you would expect it to be replaced with another new dent free car. I would complain to Audi head Office in writing as well and consider asking for your money back and then renegotiate for a new car, or just cancel it all together. You should ask for compensation for the lost days/weeks/months? on your Insurance premium also.

Did they really think you would accept a damaged car!

You must be really pissed off. Gutted for you.

To be honest Lego, if it wasn't for the detailing guy going to collect the car with his car transporter this morning I don't think they would have told me. They would have said there was a delay with registering the car, had it repaired and pushed it out of the showroom.

And that's exactly what they will do, it will be repaired and sold as a new car, it's a very high spec, the carbon brakes were the only option I didn't go for so it will sell quickly, it also doesn't come with a 4 month wait.

I'm really gutted, was so excited about getting this car but I'm just not sure what to do, 'if' I go for another, I'll be asking for a courtesy car until it gets here, as I see it this is totally in the hands of Audi even though I'd paid and signed for the car, I hadn't received it. They are now responsible for replacing it with an undamaged car and I shouldn't be without wheels until that time.

Absolutely gutted for you, Jim, but you did exactly the right thing.

I would write a very calm letter (not email) with all the details and pictures to the CEO of Audi for your territory, explaining the care with which you have chosen your new vehicle, getting everything exactly right and the patience with which you have waited.

Explain clearly what you want them to do about it (courtesy car of equivalent value and of your choice) and his proposal for how they intend to supply you with a replacement vehicle of identical or superior specification as rapidly as possible.

Say that you expect a personal response (by letter or email) within 7 days.

Send the letter recorded delivery.

Depending on the response, you may want to brush up your social media skills. Nothing gets the attention of the PR department like a well-run Twitter campaign...

Good luck and commiserations.

Don't get mad, get a better deal.
