I thought some people may be interested in this:

Hello,

RE: FREE invitation to your Club Members

We are organising a tribute event in memory of Sergio Pininfarina who sadly past away last year.
The event which is supported by the Pininfarina family, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton and many other celebrities, is held at Hurtwood Park Polo Club on the 1st and 2nd June 2013.

We would like to offer your members free entry to our event and help us create an official world record for the largest gathering of a Pininfarina cars in one place. Each participant will receive a world record certificate signed by the son of Sergio Mr Paolo Pininfarina.

The event includes the Brokersclub Tribute Cup Polo Tournament, the unveiling of Pininfarina's latest concept car "The Sergio" which will be seen for first time in the UK. Plus a Concert hosted by the owner of the Polo Club, Kenney Jones drummer of "The Faces & The Who".

Kind regards
Gary John

Theresa ,

Almost rude to refuse! We'll try to attend.

Do we respond via their web page?

T, this looks really good. I will try to get there once I've checked the diary. Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton? At least I wouldn't be the oldest person there.... wink

All 3 of my cars were made in the Pininfarina factory, so it would be rude not to take one along...unfortunately only one is road-worthy, and it's not the 1996 Fiat Coupe, nor the 1985.5 Pininfarina Spidereuropa, but the 2002 Peugeot 306 cabriolet rolleyes

Lol, I can ask about tickets for you and Dave with the Peugeots if you want to attend?

Gary replied earlier and said once he has numbers from us, he'll get his PA to email the free tickets out.
I've asked about a deadline for this, as it's only a week away and no doubt I'll have to individually email you lot the tickets.

T, We can definitely do Saturday (and evening if invited!) but not Sunday.
As an aside; their web site suggests substantial entrance fees etc. so they either love Pinanfarina very much (who doesn't!!) or desperate to attract people who haven't stumped up to £150 a ticket! Also the polo ground is up for sale!?
Hard rock hits hard times?

Still very keen- be good to catch up with my old mates- Rod, Eric and C Evans!

Hopefully attending:

Saturday:

I won't be able to go both days, and I won't know until Monday which day. I will let you know asap.

Also T, if you have to eMail the tickets they will have to go to alijanewright@tiscali.co.uk . My eMail still isn't working and I don't have an operational printer - I've spent all my money on tyres crazy

Since I'm a naturally cautious guy laugh I decided I would ring Janine at Tribute Rally to see what the crack was re: the Pinanfarina event.

She is today organising the e-tickets for this and so my call was well-timed. I have emailed her the latest list (as sent by Nismo this morning). She will then email me the ticketing arrangements and I shall distribute as required. It would be good to arrive in a great convoy but this may be too late to arrange? Alternatively I may ask you all to PM with your personal email details so I can distribute; saving Theresa the hassle! I'll let you know once I hear from Janine.

The weather forecast looks good too!

EPTAS is a fabulous album- like you, owned first on vinyl. Nods as good as a wink is brilliant too- I played it this afternoon to reminder me!

That's enough reminiscing or we'll attract the mods ! (But not the rockers!!)
Still not heard from Tribute Rally.

Spoke to Janine again just now. She's under the cosh to get all tickets out by email today so I should have something for everybody by the end of tonight. If those that want to go PM with their email address I'll send out on Friday morning.

Not sure of the movements on Sunday for those that are going but on Saturday (when the grand Pinanfarina parade is being organised) we can get there from 8:30 and they would like us there before the gates open for the public at 11:00. I expect more details to arrive with the email.
Pondman and I will meet up at the Shell garage off the Broadbridge Heath roundabout on A24 Horsham bypass; A264 turn off, at about 9:00 (I imagine Ross?) others could meet there if convenient or make your own way there.

More later- I hope!

Friends,

At long last I bring you tidings of great joy!!
Read below:

"Dear Chris

Please accept my most sincere apologies for the delay in replying to you.

You will find attached a copy of the Car Club General Admission ticket that you can distribute to your members who would like to attend the event.

I believe that the gates open to Pininfarina cars at 8.30am and will then open to the general public at 11am. There will be a large Pininfarina car park and in addition to this we are able to offer your club an area where you can park non Pininfarina cars and put up any promotional material. There will be two Polo games on each day as well as local bands performing and of course the unveiling of the Sergio. The Guinness World Record attempt will take place at approximately 5pm with Kenney and The Jones Gang performing from 7 – 9pm.

On Sunday, the gates will open at 9.30am to the general public and again there will be two polo games and some music from local bands and performers. There will also be the prize giving for the winners of the Polo Tournament.

We will have 24 hour security, so anyone wishing to leave their car at the Park over-night can rest assured that it will be looked after. I have also attached a copy of the recommended accommodation list that was supplied to me by Hurtwood Park Polo Club.

I hope that this helps. Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

Kind Regards

Janine"

It looks like Saturday will be the longest and best free party a Coupe owner could dream of (well let's hope so anyway). Sunday also looks great fun too.

I shall PM the ticket pdf file to all that have contacted me so far. Anyone who hasn't yet and would like to go just PM your email address and I'll do it tomorrow.

See you on Saturday (and enjoy Sunday if you go!)

Great to see the list get longer!

I think I have now sent out the tickets to all on this list but if you need one just contact me.

Pondman and I will plan to arrive approx. 10:20 am on Saturday. Still meeting up at 10:00 am at the shell garage at Broadbridge Health roundabout off the A24 (as previous described) if anyone wants to join us?

Either way see you tomorrow! wink

Does anyone know if we need to print the tickets or if it's ok just to show them the email on my phone?
I'll try and make it to shell garage at 10 for the convoy but i have to wash the coupe first thing and it's about an hour and a half from me!

I believe you will need to print a ticket but you never know.

I will have a couple of spares with me if you do make the convoy or if you're later in arriving I could walk back to the gate with a spare ticket if you ring my mobile (on the bottom of today's email).

Wow a great day, missed the concert and 5 o'clock Pinin showdown so I'm looking forward to the update as to how Rod the Mod Stewart was?

Daniel Craig having a picnic on the grass with his mates was cool as well. I'm not usually a grouppie but.......

Great to see everyone again. The Coupe's held their own as always, the convoy to the venue was good too.

Line after line of Fezza's looked rather splendid. Chinos and posh people seem to go with Polo clubs.

No Rod and no Eric... but bearing in mind that members of the band were ex-Who, ex-Faces and ex-Bad Company the music was great. Not so much a tribute as a back catalogue. Won't get fooled again was superb.

An extraordinary day out, with Wolseleys next to Prancing Horses. Not an occasion for those of a politically left-leaning persuasion. I was queuing for a beer (£4 for a bottle of Peroni) and the lady in front of me asked how much a bottle of champagne was... £60... I'll have two then she said! Just an insight into how the other half live.

Theresa, many thanks for pointing this event out. Thunderbox, more thanks for organising our rabble into a super convoy and helping out idiots who couldn't arrange the printing of a ticket ( rolleyes ) and for keeping me supplied with cheese and cakes. Great company, great cars, a great/interesting experience and I even understood a few of the rules of polo by the end; just like Rugby League on horseback.

First off thanks to Thunderbox for sorting out tickets. Great to see The Coupe guys again. Begbie, apologies, we didn't get to finish arranging things before I left. Hope you saw my note. If not, check your rocker cover!

The actual event was pretty "meh", IMO. Supposed to be a Guinness world record attempt and there were barely 70 cars there. Practically all Ferraris, and 2 Pugs.

Speaking of posh people: You guys are far too polite! There were more than a few people who needed a slap in the mouth there!

My favourite overheard conversation of the day:

Posh tw*t 1: "You put your order in for {Ferrari somethingorother]?"

Posh tw*t 2: "No, right now I can't even afford a 355."

Well boo-bloody-hoo for you rolleyes hehe

Oh well, at least FCCUK represented! We must have made up about 10% of the cars there! I like the fact that some of the Coupes got more attention than all of the Ferraris put together!

Sorry can't make today. Headed off this morning and my righthand indicator packed-up which resulted in a very nice miss from a Land Rover. Thought it would be best to turn around and head back home and try to sort the problem.

Hope those going today have a great time, at least it's sunny.

Sorry for not coming onto the forum yesterday but busy with domestic stuff all day!
Firstly, thank you to all for taking the effort to turn out at relatively short notice but I think we all had a great day. Weather good, celebrity count low, interesting car count massive, opportunities to "people watch" very high, and unlike some, I enjoyed meeting with people who have bank balances far higher than mine will ever be, very happy talking about their pride and joy. Concert was a very enjoyable end to the day even without the alleged appearance of rock royalty, as Tim said, they were great.

Very sorry I didn't get to talk to Dave, Darren and Kahinde and others but pleased you took the trouble to come down and hopefully enjoyed something of the day.
Also sorry Serg1 had a potentially dangerous mechanical on the way down on Sunday and wonder if Pondman did his promised second day and how it was?
The Pininfarina 'head count' was slightly a non-event and Tim is probably right about the Brooklands numbers. I spoke to a Ferrari 360 Spider owner who said they had a Ferrari day at Silverstone last year when over 1000 Ferraris turned up and 70% of those would have been Pininfarina designed. That said I think they had about 230 on Saturday. The email address for the signed certificate is: info@tribute-rally.com Talking of signed things; Pondman has doubled his eBay investment by getting Paulo Pininfarina to sign it- well down Ross!

If they did it again next year I'd go although I can't quite see how it covered its costs and Mrs Kenney Jones walked around with a face like thunder most of the day- probably thought her husband was enjoying himself too much whilst she did all the work- you see life is pretty much the same whether you're rich or poor!

Thanks again to all of you who attended smile

Thanks also to Thunderbox for taking over the sorting out of it all.

I was told they would be doing a dvd of the day and I've already asked and had permission to do a copy for you all (although my pc is playing up at the moment, but will sort something out).

As soon as I hear about it, then I'll let you all know.

So was yours the 306 mentioned in the Pistonheads write up about the event - http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=27828

Wish I had been able to go, but a long way and my Coupe was otherwise occupied at Harewood Hillclimb yesterday!

And if that photo on the PH article was a touch wider, you would have seen my coupe parked next to the grey F430

Yes it was! And just as I was leaving and taking another photo of it in the grounds to prove I was there, these two young ladies came up to me wanting to get their picture taken of it and the Ferrari next door, with the more drunk of the two saying what a wonderful event it was and how "somebody had even brought a f***ing Peugeot, I mean, a Peugeot!" So after I told her it was my f***ing Peugeot, and pointed out to her the importance of the pininfarina badge on the side, I took her photo, but having been suitably insulted I did not get her number...

She wouldn't have remembered her number... at least PH said your Peugeot was "nestling"..... I bet a fair bit of nestling went on later that night, judging by the number of empty champagne bottles lying around (at £60 a bottle, when full).

All the same, a good day out.... interesting to see how the other half live.

The organisers say that they'd like to use my photos to build up a portfolio of cars that were present for pininfarina. Should I be trying to make sure I get acknowledged somehow, should I watermark the hi-res photos I send them? Any other suggestions regarding the use of photos by others?

That's very good DaveG.

I just received an email from Alma Suter? Tribute Rally, part of it I have copied below?

"We are at present working out the accounts for the event and would really appreciate your help as we are unable to trace all the payments made for the registration fees. We kindly ask you to send us a copy of your bank transfers or details of your payments."

????

Thanks T, but I'll just ignore it.
I just thought it a bit odd and if it was actually genuine, asking for bank details etc

Yes, probably best to ignore it and it does sound a bit odd. Strange how they've got your email address too?

We had to send a picture of our cars to prove we were there! Bit shambolic to be honest! in order to receive the record certificate. (180 cars a record???)
I did get a reply to that, part of which read 'thanks John!' Mmmmm?

A good day out, but when Ross was greeted on our arrival by a lady (sic) who was most certainly not on her first glass (or bottle) of champagne at 10.45 the eyebrows were raised.... bunk-up, organisation and brothel spring to mind to form a useful phrase.

One of the polo ponies gave us the best moment of the day when he/she ditched the rider into a goalpost and galloped off.

The rider was a 'he' an American I believe. I was walking back across the 'goal mouth' with food. (Mmm) and my wife shouted something. I turned to see her running away and turned to the other direction to see death staring me in the face.
There was a horse bolting towards me after dumping the jockey. Having payed £5 for an egg wrapped in bread I didn't know which was worth more. Food or my life. Anyway the horse ended up galloping back to its stable thing. My wife doesn't know I don't have any life insurance.

Nb. Staring death in the face was the horses name
