Hey people,

I'm chris from edinburgh, i own a rover coupe turbo at the moment but after a quick spin in a fiat coupe 20v t the other day i am now defo looking out for one. i have the chance of buying the one i was in, It was a T plate in silver with 73k on the clock. bodywork is tidy with no rust, the engine bay looked ok not spottles but not like a graveyard. I did notice that when it first started there was a very quiet ticking noise but went away pretty quickly. Also the front discs need replacing. he is wanting £3300 for it and i recon i could get it for £2900. Is this offer too good to be true? he said its just had all the belts changed but i havent yet had a proper look over the car. i might go to properly view the car over the weekend if it seems ok. What do you think.

cheers, chris.

Its a little on the cheap side perhaps. The ticking at start up which disappears when warm sounds like the exhaust manifold is cracked (crack seals up when warm) - that's a 400 quid repair. Front discs, parts and fitting maybe 150 quid - so the real price of the car to get it up straight is more like 3850 which is around the mark for a car of that age/mileage. What proof has he got of the belt change? Did everything get done including aux belts, tensioners and water pump as they are critical to change.
