Well as all my no claims (9yrs) are used on the coop I had to bite the bullet and start a brand new policy for an everyday 2nd car....
So bought a V-reg 1999 BMW compact sport 1.9, then called Adrian flux as i was already with them to get a quote & sure enough they were considerably cheaper than anyone else @ around £650.
Anyway I sold the compact and then purchased a 04 plate ford focus 1.4 cl as it had five doors and eventually when the wife passes test SHOULD be easier/cheaper to insure.
I then called Flux to swap the insurance from BMW to the Focus, expecting a dramatic decrease in the premium.... I was STUNNED when they came back and said the new premium is around £860, over 200 dearer!!
I obviously questioned this and there explanation was that they are a performance car insurance company and that the BMW was insured with this in mind, even though it is totally standard and also there web site states they also provide standard insurance for normal cars!!
BMW is Group 12
Focus is Group 4

Can they do this???

Of course than do that, it's them (or their underwriters) saying that we don't really want your business on this particular car.

Try the normal comparison sites. smile

But they already have my business for a YEAR, unless I cancel and PAY another £100+ for the privelage!!

Just done "compare the market" and found I can get it for £805.... That's with my wife on it who only has a PROVISIONAL license!!..... Crazy!!

My coop insurance is up in 3 months, will I be better off on a multicar policy??
Also does such a policy exist where I can insure both cars AND my van all in one!??

Watch out for admiral and modifications.
Try brentacre for the coop at renewal mate . Performance car specialists and very competitive and friendly.
As for your other car..not sure.I haven't insured a 'normal' car for 4, going on 5 years.
The girlfriend insured her 1.2 clio with Hastings last year for a good price. Now she's got her punto sporting, the best offer came with The RAC...

I have spoken to a few people about insurance for my mondeo tddi 02 plate as that is only about £20 cheaper than my 20vt coupe, and everybody (not insurance companies) is saying its just because its a Ford they just seem to be dearer for no apparent reason! not sure if there is any truth in that but it certainly seems true in my case! and possibly yours!

I would recomend you insure the Coop without NCB on a future classic policy with me and use the ncb on your other car.

My Coupe (1998)group19 is currently £100 a year cheaper than my S Type Jag Diesel (2004)group 15 with Bell.

Despite the Coupe being much faster and higher insurance group, I think the age of the car has something to do with it?

@NeilWillies - do you do multi-car policies which include a Coupe? I am currently with Admiral but definitely don't want to renew with them so will be looking at alternatives for renewal in August. Currently have 4 cars and 3 drivers on the policy.

Unfortunately, at the moment we can only cover Fiat Coupes and/or classic cars/modified cars
