Fitted my rear strut brace today, very please with it. I decided to paint it satin black to fit in with the rest of the interior.

Yes, looks good. Can you really feel the difference in handling?

They are not really meant to make much difference but it did feel a bit different, probably all in my head! It's mainly cosmetic or in my case a mounting point for my gopro camera smile

Do you have a pic of the camera mount? And if you can install it on the bar it would be great smile

That was the idea, i looked at quite a few different ones, and this one looked the best that was reasonably priced. Some were nearly £50!
I'll post some pics up when the mount arrives.

That looks good.
I did a search for "roll cage camera mount" and I found this DIY camera mount. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=155002
Maybe something you can use.

I think the name is misleading on these, there aren't any rear struts to brace, if anything this is a rear seatbelt anchor point brace. The rear suspension is all contained in the rear subframe so this bar will have no effect on the rear geometry.

It does however look really nice smile and like you say, it's a perfect place to mount a camera.

Guess that's why it is in styling wink
Saw THIS check out sellers other items, seem to have a brace for everywhere. Funny shaped front one. Slightly off topic, apologies.

I'm struggling to see how these braces can work without a diagonal bar? If you strengthen the top and bottom of a box you can still push it sideways and it will twist, put a diagonal in there and it no longer twists.

The B pillar brace especially just doesn't look functional, it has a large U shape in it where it straddles the central tunnel. Braces don't have large U shapes in them!

I think you're just adding some nice looking weight to the car.

@Jimbo that's why it's still in the styling section and not been moved to handling. laugh

well if the front sparco brace works and is bent then why wont this one work ? i'll post my findings once i have received the centre brace , fitted and tested it to see if it was a waist of money or not .

Because there is noting to brace between the base of the B pillars Nismo, the chassis doesn't squeeze together at that point and that bar would only stop any movement in that direction.

The front strut brace has been talked about before, a straight bar between the two suspension struts will stop much more movement than a bent bar, that centre brace has a U shape in it which will take up any movement there is in the chassis so it's not really much use.

The amount of weight saved by removing it would probably create a lager improvement in handling than fitting the thing in the first place.

But hey, if you like the look of it and you think it's made a difference then that's a good thing.

There are two issues with the b-pillar brace....

1) If fitting it makes a difference, then there's a HUGE problem with your car, as somehow, the distance between the base of the b-pillars is moving as you drive - this would suggest the floorpan is flexing (at one of its strongest points, incidentally)

2) Even if the floorpan IS flexing, bracing it won't make any difference, as the rear suspension is self-contained in the rear subframe and the front suspension runs off the subframe and the suspension turrets - neither end will be affected by anything that's happening in the middle of the car

IMHO, the ONLY braces that can possibly make any difference are:-

1) strut brace
2) front subframe brace
3) a full cage

I have fitted the Ultra Racing 'Room bars' before. Despite my initial skepticism, it actually did make a difference. Don't ask me how or why, It just did. Made the car more tail happy though.

Lots of malaysian coupe's have them and they all report feeling a difference too.

Reminds me of when old people keep a brolly on the back parcel shelf... probably has similar effect on cars handling too.

I don't endorse or pay ridiculous money for things until I have actually tested them and find that they actually do something Jimbo...and at 100 quid per bottle for your snake oil, I think i'll pass, thank you very much laugh

On a more serious note, I suggest you try the room bar (B-pillar bar or whatever its called..The one that goes on the rear passenger floor) first before passing judgement!

That end plate will flex more than the std floor (if it flex at all..).

I think I can see what it's trying to do. It does appear to try and increase torsional rigidity about the longitudinal axis and keep the front/rear geometry aligned. Would be interesting to take some measurements with and without. Maybe just jacking a corner up and seeing how the doors fit?

With all the does it work or not, it's kind of irrelevant. I'd be more concerned about adding an extra shear plane to the seatbelt mounts with those two braces.

The B pillar brace especially just doesn't look functional, it has a large U shape in it where it straddles the central tunnel. Braces don't have large U shapes in them!

I think you're just adding some nice looking weight to the car.

well if the front sparco brace works and is bent then why wont this one work ? i'll post my findings once i have received the centre brace , fitted and tested it to see if it was a waist of money or not .

Did you get one and fit it?
