Hi all,
My son has just passed his test and the father in law has given him his 2003 1.4 Fiesta. The problem being is insurance! I've tried Co-op young drivers and then gone through confused.com and I can't get his insurance any less than £3000!!. I've chosen fully comp as it doesn't seem to affect the price that much, but at that level it just isn't viable for him. Any takers on other sites/places to try??

Cheers Jamie

DOH can a moderator move to the correct section please

Try I-cube on the net it means having a box fitted to monitor his driving but its cheaper. plus you should have posted this under insurance not tuning

Try the "compare" sites - but adding yourself as a named driver. I did this for my daughter and it made a huge difference - ended up with Tesco, but that was 6 months or more ago.

The fine for having no insurance is now far less than actually having insurance.

That price is ridiculous.

John you're right that the costs are ridiculous, I have now managed to get it just short of £2k but still doesn't make it any easier to swallow

A lad I know got pinched for no insurance after 4 years.
Got fined £250 and 6 points.

Total saved £3200

And we wonder why so many take the chance.

It's like going into a car park and buying a ticket for the day for £30 or risk getting clamped with a release fee of £5.

I am currently insuring a 20v VIS and am 20. if I told you how much i am paying you honestly wouldn't believe me. we worked it out that they (the insurance company) expect me to write my car off 6ish times a year with a £1000 excess

Still wouldn't want anything else as a first car!

It won't be the potential damage to your car that makes it expensive; it's the damage they fear you will do to others due to your age and relative inexperience.

16VT and X1/9 1500

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

While probably a grey area, when I was younger, my parents were the main driver, and merely added me as a second driver. Still cost hundreds, but at least not thousands. Worth it for the first few years imo.

I was in Scarborough last week and passed police with a recovery vehicle putting a car onto it with a big sticker on the car. NO INSURANCE NO CAR.
