It scares me when people say they've been to the 'Ring but never been close to a track in this country. Ok if you're the right sort of person you might be ok, but seriously...

Couldn't agree more Jonny. I disagree You don't have to hammer it around the ring... you could just drive round it casually. I mean there are busses and coaches going around that thing. So just because someone says they have been doesn't mean that have hammered it around there.

Mario the thing with the ring is.. people dont care.. 50% of the people are locals. they bring there track cars there to go insane for lap after lap.
there serious head case's.
also, what i found weird was moving to the right to allow them to over take.
most of the time it was the race line you end up moving into to to allow them to pass on the out side.. and they do not hang about.
All there there to do is go faster and faster. in one hand you can drive around it and keep out of peoples way.. but you get distracted with exotica and nutters which is another problem.
plus motorbikes coming past you on one wheel...

my best advise is get track insurance and make sure it covers the ring becasue ANY thing can happen.
some times its not even your fault.

I agree you dont have to hammer it and you could be doing nothing wrong, but even if you go at a good pace where you'd be fine in the UK, you're still opening yourself up to massive risks. Firstly the track is so long that most regulars will lose concentration never mind the beginners. However it's the speed differentials that are the main problem. I can imagine there could be 50-80mph speed differentials in some circumstances

Its not so much yourself but the other nutters/bad drivers that is the risk. Imagine how you would feel if an idiot crashed and you had to avoid him/her and kill/injure another innocent person in the way like on that video.
Patrick was involved in a horrific crash a few years ago there(no fault of his). A decapitation of a biker. WTF are cars and bikes doing on the track at the same time ?

WTF are cars and bikes doing on the track at the same time ? Because it's a public toll road for the majority of the time.
