My drive down to Manchester #140219

Thought I'd post about my driving experiences over the weekend. Had nice drive from Livingston (near Glasgow) to Manchester down the A74. Have to say that it was a very relaxing drive averaging around 90mph and even though there was some traffic I never felt endangered or as if I was driving recklessly. The road users seemed sensible and I never had to brake harshly during the 3 hours or so on the way down.

I think most of this has to do with the 3rd lane on the motorway, up here on the M8 you are always having to brake down to 60 when lorries or slow moving cars try to overtake and it's just dangerous and slows everyone else down. My run down (and up) in comparison was stress free and very easily done!

Have to say that the coupe performed amazingly with no problems performing as a high speed cruiser (although with it being an NA it was quite manic cruising at 6000rpm or so)

Why can't all motorways be 3 lanes?

It was doing 6K RPM at 90!!! Blimey, did you take it out of 3rd? I can't remember exactly from my NA, but I am pretty sure it wasn't doing 6K at 90!

In fifth, I'd say 4.5k max at 90mph

Yup, if I dredge my memory, that's about what I'd come up with.

Yup, I'd be worried if my Meril was at 6k at 90!

hehe! I would have to say that I may not have been cruising at 90 in 6K but the general gist being that I was going in and out of 90-100 and the coupe cruising around that same level... 4.5 to about 6k when I wasn't paying attention.

My point being that the 20V is geared exactly like my old clio 1.2. Manic.

Were you on some sort of mind altering substance for this drive at all?!

It's a great run.

I live near Manchester and used to work in Alloa, so did that drive every Monday and Friday
People thought I was mad but I like driving and always enjoyed the drive. Well, once i was past the south lakes turn off Only done it a few times in my coupé though, when we've been to Scotland on hols

I live in Manchester and bought my car from a guy in Glasgow last year so this route was my first ever run in the coop.

I was grinning from ear to ear all the way back. Much better than the trip up to Glasgow was in a 1.2ltr Corsa

Nope

My clio used to hit 70 @ 3500rpm and so does my 20V. It's quite high geared but at that sort of revs the wind noise is louder and the car is pretty quiet.
