I was surfing the net this afternoon, when I stumbled across this.

http://www.turbodynamics.co.uk/shop/gt28...ger-p-2621.html

I just thought I would share this, incase anybody is thinking of upgrading, this is 1 of the turbos I was considering purchasing, and I have previously being quoted by more than one person about £1000 for the exact same turbo.

So with 33% off, at £660 inc vat seems like a fair price to me smile

That's exactly what I was going to do before spotting this offer. Probably about the same price as the ones in America, just the import tax etc thats the killer.

What else would be needed to fit this other than 5-stud downpipe?

I take it the intake pipe is at the right angle for the Coupe and won't need rotated?

Am finding this difficult to resist, have a GTI'R on my Coupe but have been thinking of buying a 2nd Coop!

Hi gargoil, ive been on to the boffins at dynamics.

As I too suspected the intake pipe is at the wrong angle, and the water/oil feed pipes "may or may not fit" ive being told, there unsure if the pipes of my standard turbo will fit.

I am going to whip mine off and send it down to them and then we will know for sure,

Bottom line....after battering there heads for half an hour, they will assemble the turbo at the right fiat coupe angles for free, and throw in the oil restrictor required, the only major problem is that, they think that once the turbo has being assembled to fit the coop, that the actuator won't fit, and they will have to make a new one at a cost of an additional £95.00 and I cant get them to budge on that at all, after seing your post, I asked what if I bought 2? And still no, as it is at rock bottom price already I was told.

I think even paying the excess, makes it still a fair price. But im going to find out what other people running this turbo have done, and have a word with my local specialist.

Be back on later to confirm, if your still interested.

I'm sure the details of how to fit this turbo is either in the how to section, or 20VT tuning section. It details the required connections etc.

In the how to section for GT28R, but the parts required should bethe same.

Thanks Gunzi

I've just got off the phone to barbz, who was extremely helpful, and has advised me to just buy the turbo as is, get it on the bench and simply rotate the intake housing.

The water/oil pipes will fit the turbo, and the actuator also, I think dynamics are just trying to make some extra money crazy

gargoil, if your seriously interested, then pm me and I will send you links to everything you need to fit.

Hi guys.

Question regarding the oil drain..

Does anybody know if I could just get a gasket, and get away with just using
this

Instead of combining this with this as is done in the thread that Gunzi kindly put up?

Im guessing the angle has something to do with it? Im finding it hard to picture the turbo without having it here in front of me.

With the right supporting mods and map etc, they will kick out 350 bhp all day long.

Im however sticking with my standard clutch/injectors for now, so power will be limited to around 300ish for me, as the clutch won't take much more, but if I can make that at low (ish) boost, i'll be happy as Larry laugh

That is a very keen price for a GT28RS. This is for the smaller 0.64 so you can expect to see 330bhp+ with a good setup.

In terms of fitting, don't forget you will either need a 5-stud exhaust downpipe or a V-band to 5-stud adapter flange. The turbo inlet is also 3" so this will need a reducer hose to fit the standard 2.5" inlet. You can use existing water pipes, the original oil feed can just about fit although easier to have a new one made up with a restrictor. The oil return flange can be the one you linked to above F1ANG. Don't forget that it isn't supplied with a wastegate actuator, so you will need a new one as the standard actuator is too weak.

For those that may like an easier solution and 350-360bhp i.e. bolt on, well I have a new hybrid on the way which will be quite special smile

Thanks flea, helpful post.

I thought they would kick out a bit more? On your league table you have Benny @ 391 and greyfurby @ 357 both running the smaller 0.64?

And to be honest i would much prefer a streight bolt in jobie, could you tell us what the spec would consist of or how it will compare with the rs, and put a price with it?

Many thanks.

The GT28rs is by far a more efficient unit than any hybrid out there to date.
Also, Garrett's Dual ball bearing system has superior reliability and longevity advantages over conventional journal types.
The smaller hybrids in all their various formats, using a .49ar turbine housing will always remain inefficent compared to the .64ar, boost for boost.

And most importantly, at that price your getting a brand new unit rather than refurbed one. cool

But here's the beauty of it, if you were to decide for more power at a later date, you could drop in a 71mm/56trim wheel and up its potential by 100hp for couple hundred quid. wink
Bargin! laugh

Beat me to it Barbz.

No hybrid can be superior over this turbo in the stock based carcass.
You simply don't have the room.
The engines volumetric efficiency consumes all the turbo can offer over a certain boost level.
This level when exceeded has consequences.

Also recent tests done show the Peak efficiency of the hybrids are around0.8 to 1 bar.
Which means a hybrid in these tests become dangerous long term after such levels.
Generating massive amounts of heat post 1 bar per increment .

So effectively any hybrid is only capable of offering a safe 310 Bhp before the heat and back pressure issue pushing boost beyond INEFFICIENT levels for such a small unit.

Excess heat will occur especially in higher gears as the load rate increases.

The 2860 is "proper" and offers greater, safer, reliable and cheaper bang for buck power over the hybrid with the potential to optimise internals should the requirements of the owner change in the future.
Is what it is.

Thanks barbz and jbt.

When you put it like that there's no thinking about it really, and as you two say, for that price I will be getting a brand new unit, it's interchangeable if I need more power at a later date, and it will be safer over a longer period of time, and that is what's most important to me, so thanks for the info thumb

Don't do it to your self Marco (just messing laugh )

I thought the rsr would put out exactly as much punch as the rs only spool up alot faster?

On paper besides the fact the rsr will spool up quicker than the rs, they should be pretty much the same, but apparently on the road it's night and day? Is that right?

Opening myself up to a fight here but
The rsr is quicker in my experience.

Doesn't get such high peak power .
Look between the graphs and a Much greater spread of power is clearly visible despite the shortfall on the peak.

On a 1/4 mile and around the track the Rs is the one.
On the road the rsr would do it for me.

Anyone who has fitted one of these before able to comment on this? ie if the straight or angle oil drain connector is required?

You want as much angle as possible.
Ideally you have a drain that's angled towards the sump or you risk the return backing up causing carbon build up around the seals.

Cr turbos supply these and the gaskets.
Speak to Olly or Craig.

Sorry I wasn't clear
The angle is made of the pipe
I don't think anyone makes angled rigid returns to fit these?but could be wrong.

The aggressive angle is made by a short straight pipe
If the pipe sits too low then the angle is closer to vertical than horizontal.
\ instead of (

Not entirely as an RSR is a GT28R machined to house an RS wheel.

Saying that though, I agree with Johnny. I ran an RS and loved it as I've always loved top end power more than anything else. The RSR is a better all round turbo and on the right setup it's just as quick as the RS, but with a better spread of power.

I spoke to them last week, and they said they would hold it at the offer price, even if it changed.

Try and phone them up, ask to speak to Tom, he seams to know what he's talking about, compared to this other guy I dealt with (I dont even think he knew what a turbocharger was laugh ) and just mention that when he spoke to me (Angelo) that he agreed to hold it at that price for two week.

You didn't arrange this before the offer ended, so may not work, but it's worth a try, and hopefully he will out of goodwill!

Hi Dave, the turbo is based on a similar Garrett hybrid that I have used on other cars to achieve over 400bhp. For the Coupe this has been modified to suit the engine, especially as we can't run silly amounts of boost. The key component is to achieve quick spool with a very broad range of torque and very good levels of compressor efficiency. It is a true hybrid in that it is based on the original TB28 turbo albeit with a new core, turbine, compressor and wastegate actuator. Please PM me if you would like more info.

He did have five fingers once but he eat one when he had a double decker.
Sad story really.
This is what happens when you get addicted.

Nismo you need to feed proccy before you spa ( power to weight ratio ).
