Cosworth boys used to seek out the rare .55 AR housing as the best compromise.

63 a/r definiely isn't too big for a 2 litre. But the performance depends greatly on the rest of the turbo: design of the turbine, size of turbine, comp, bearings etc. It also depends just as greatly on the engine - all 2 litre engines aren't created equal.

Same goes for turbos; all the major manufacturers have their own design wheels and parts, which gives them different performance. The worst combination I can think of would be a Garrett "st.1" turbine, 63 a/r housing, T4 comp of some sort - all chucked on a completely bog standard 16VT with it's log manifold. Don't anything to happen until 5000rpm.

On the other hand, a well spec'd turbo on a well spec'd 16VT with a tubular manifold and correctly sized exhaust system will make boost below 4000 rpm.

You're right man. I'm very curious about your results man.
I'll keep watching this tread for sure!

I have a new T34 with a .63 A/R and stage 2 turbine and TO4E .50 a/r and 50 trim with supporting mods (500cc, 3inch downpipe, FMIC etc etc). But OEM internals but with all new crank and big end bearings with ARP2000 bolts for crank and big ends. And rebuild head with Spesso headgasket. I would be more than happy to see 300bhp. I Don't want more on standard pistons, big ends.

My car is ready next week. And the bill also....
So the dyno has to wait...

So by "big ends" you meant "Rods"?
Big ends to us just means the bearing that sits in the big hole of the rod!!

Going for a cold shower after all this talk off, big ends, big holes & rods!! laugh

My fault. I meant rods yeah.
Sometimes English is a little confusing to me.

I thought big end, and con rods are the same.

Hey Nick_d not to cold...... smile

The 'big end' is just one end of the conrod, the crankshaft end of one.

Hello Nick_d

I see when you rebuild the engine. Your crank has been balanced etc because off new pistons.

Now my car (16VT) is at the garage for rebuilding the head etc. So I thought lets replace the conrods and pistons too
at the same time now the head is off. And replacing al bearings bottom end, but with crank still in the block.

I asked the garage if that's possible to replace pistons and conrods with crank still in (and gearbox) and they said it could. But then they can't balance the crank though!

Is that a big problem? Is that really a no go then?
New forged items weigh 896 gram (1piston and 1 conrod incl.)
What's the weight of original??

Sorry don't mind. I'll know how it is going to be done more or less.

Crankshaft is going out for axial bearings (located on both ends of Crankshaft) and all other bearings. Don't now the name. And then crankshaft is going to be balanced too.

They din't say anything about it. So got a bit worried. But cantact them already.

I'm sorry....

Was worried about lag now I've fitted larger .63 exhaust housing but
1 bar @ 3200 revs seems quite good to me??

Next week........ Mapping!! :woohoo:
