That was the wee guy that had a cape and could jump about really high? That sounds more like Rick Dangerous. Dungeon Master and Stunt car racer were probably my favourite games on the ST.

Stunt car racer was legendary. Why it put holes in the car when you crashed I'll never know!! Rick dangerous I remember, had the first and 2nd ones. Bombjack was the guy in the cape that jumped about I'm sure... Ross

For me the best bit about old games on the Amiga was the music in the 'crack' menus

best thing about SWOS was how you could score from the halfway line, every time: Cut in from left or right touchline Hit fire whilst also puling back and rolling the joystick round in the opposite direction Instant curler into the opposite top corner. If you were particularly cocky you could get your striker to do a diving header into the flight of the ball and get it in the near top corner

If you were particularly cocky you could get your striker to do a diving header into the flight of the ball and get it in the near top corner That's what I always tried to do. If you were playing 2 player (which you could on the amiga) you can block that shot with a careful defender header out for a corner!! Ross

What i dont get is how the Amiga was playing music like this: Bomb The Bass - Megablast dont beleive me? Here's the licenced Amiga version: Xenon 2 : Megablast The Amiga was capable of this in the 80's... about the same time people were listening to the electronic farting noises of the NES.

Defender is easily my fav. Pole Postition was great too but I could top the leader board with ease. On defender i never even got close. I am generally a fan of Williams games and Joust was another odd but very addictive game. None of these games is the same on anything but the stand up arcade machine format

wow, how have I not already posted in this thread. I love retrogaming, I spent £1000 building a mame arcade cab complete with genuine arcade sticks and trackball. it is brillant. Also I have sensible soccer on the xbox so if anyone wants a game send me a message (bigmike20vturbo) i am not very good mind you, i have barely played it. also if you like your classic games, check out assault heroes and choplifter HD on live arcade, 2 very good classic style shooters (choplifter HD was half price on steam yesterday) I remember my mum buying me that back in the early 80's on my home computer. i loved it. PS if you havent already look at this thread for retro remakes some are brilliant and all are free http://www.avforums.com/forums/retro-gam...ion-thread.html

Stop this thread now please. Or stop posting links. I need to do some work. I've got a shop full of PC's to fix before I leave for Spa on Thursday and this thread is not helping me fix them

Excellent thread. Surprised no F-zero mentions as yet - probably my favourite game series.
Original F-Zero on the SNES was great, F-Zero GX on the Gamecube is excellent, and I'm currently working through F-Zero GP Legends (Gameboy Advance) on my DS.
James Pond was awesome, as was Speedball 2 - and still is, on Xbox Live Arcade.

Taken from the games link thread I have an atari 2600. Well, its my dad's. And he has the original Yars Revenge game. And he is STILL brilliant at it. We had a retro games night in the family a few months ago, and we had the SNES, megadrive, Atari, dreamcast and the orange *pong* style system (first home computer system supposedly) there, all of which myself and my dad own. It was possibly the most fun I've had in years. Best game of the night - mirco machines V3 with 4 player. What a game!! Ross

Oh yeh. Speedball 2 was superb.
I spent many hours playing John Madden 94 (was there a 95 too?), EA Hockey (fight!) and NBA Jam

Manic Miner on the Spectrum 48k,first game I ever got seriously addicted to! Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix on the Atari ST,had to build a joystick, from real metal and with proper microswitches because the plastic joysticks could not cope with the pace! Used to race against my mate, but the computer used to crash your car while you waited for your next go . . . Track and field was great, used to be one in my old local, could buy one pint and be on the machine til closing time . .

Ah, isn't a trip down memory lane nice? Some great memories have came flooding back. Well the N64 arrived yesterday, and my god Goldeneye feels dated! I remember being awestruck by the graphics, the control pad, everything. It's not quite how I remembered it! The graphics are glitchy, the control stick is worn which doesn't help, but the aiming system is a right 'mare. The layout is also backwards if you've been fed on a diet of Xbox/Call of Duty for the past few years. The sound is laughably bad. You can't jump? You can't run? The mind really does remember things with a distinctly rose-tinted hue. I'll be honest, I felt like just putting it straight back on ebay. But I persevered for just one level. Then the second. Then when I woke up the next day, I had that feeling when you're starting to get addicted to a game. That 'urge' to play that only the good ones give you when you're doing other things. Everything else fades, but the gameplay never does Look out Trevelyan....
Coopless!

Well the N64 arrived yesterday, and my god Goldeneye feels dated! I remember being awestruck by the graphics, the control pad, everything. It's not quite how I remembered it! The graphics are glitchy, Bit like Doom on PS1, and a 42" LCD Flatscreen. It's not that the graphics were crap, it's just that now they are so good! Anybody remember Qix? Cost me a fortune in the early 80s on a table top pub game in Canada. As for the ultimate - Space Invaders. Put in the choggie shop when I was on an NI tour in 79. Queue around the shop, only allowed one go at a time, at 10p a game. The machine had to be emptied the day it was installed. Nobody had ever seen anything like it Those young soldiers who queued are now in their 50s
