Alternatively try giving Dean a ring at Noel Dazeley. He's been able to sort me out the last couple of years, substantially cheaper than anyone else with all mods covered.

What is a 'classic' policy? How does a car qualify for it? How does it differ from normal insurance?

Coopless!

I'm with Neil Willies, and to qualify for it the car couldn't be driven more than 5k per annum.

Several of the classic insurers I rang would only insure me if I was 30+, and at the time I wasn't.

footman james have put me on there classic car policy they have on agreed mileage of 1500 miles which doesnt use your n.c.b
they called it a classic car policy
and put me through to the classic car insurance section!
wouldnt argue a point on what policy but i am happy with it!
3000 miles would have been £100 more

Give Sarah at Neil Willies a call she may better that. I'm 37, live in Bristol, and pay less than that on my 20vt and with more miles smile

i got a good quote from sarah @ neil willies.
the best i got was from Brentacre £660 for me (29yrs 6ync) and my gf 28 (1ync) to drive at 5k miles per year.
But when i tried sarah, she quoted me £490 with me only coverin 5k miles, paid over 5 months.BUT i need to have the fiat coupe membership a i explained ive just joined.

So that is pretty good considering for a 20vt,it even came back as a classic car insurance. our W reg 12yr old focus is £800 for us both :0

Yes I agree. Watch out most dont give any NCB so if you have the insurance for two years you may not have the proof of your NCB entitlement. If that is the case these policies are a joke.

Submariner please don't slate a Classic Car Policy and call them a joke, especially when the benefits of Classic Car/Future Classic Car Policies are much better than any standard private car policy and if owners are serious about keeping Fiat Coupe's on the road for many years to come then a Classic Car Policy is the way to go with Salvage Retention, Agreed value etc.

To put the record straight Classic Car Policies don't usually earn No Claims Bonus, although our policies at Neil Willies allow you to assign any earnt no claims bonus against it, if you want, so that you don't lose it (As NCB is only valid with the majority of insurers for 2 years) and then if you cancel the policy or purchase another car you can remove the ncb at any point, which will be issued with the new cancellation/removal date, although the ncb won't of increased from what it was when it was assigned to the policy originally. A maximum no claims bonus is anything over 4 years, so the majority of people should not need to worry about losing their no claims bonus or it not increasing anyway!

Sorry I dont follow your logic. If you try to save money by having a cheap classic policy only to sell the car or buy a more modern car you will not have accrued NCB for those years thus meaning you may be paying more than you would have if you had selected a more expensive policy that accrued ncb. Or have I missed something? Many companies and brokers fail to mention this fact. Classic car policies great as a second or third car but I cant see the sense if it's your only car and a daily driver.

Maximium ncb is 4 years? My documentation over the years suggests 9 or is this another a anomaly from the insurance sector who remember insure on risk to maximise their huge profits. I think prospective purchasers should be very worried about losing their ncb whether it's 4 years worth or not. Look at some of the loading of policies for lack of ncb.

Whats a future classic car policy? Can that concept exist....sums it all up adequately imo

Exactly. Most owners who have a policy like the one Sarah offers will use the Coupe as a weekend toy and have something else for commuting in during the week.

You wouldn't normally choose a classic policy for an every day or only car because they don't normally include commuting cover and only have a limited mileage.

If you worked from home I guess you could get away with it but generally you would continue earning your NCB on your daily driver.

Indeed but the ncb trap is not made clear more relevant if all you have and drive is your Coupe or your aspiring junior soon to be maybe fingers crossed modern classic. Insurance is fantastic until its claim or renewal time.

When I bought my first coupe, I insured with Neil Willies on a classic car policy despite the fact that this was my only car as the level of cover was sufficient for my needs. It was made VERY CLEAR that I would not accrue any NCB however I sent my proof of NCB so that I wouldn't lose it. The cost of insuring the car on a classic car policy was half the price of a standard policy so I believe I did save a good few hundred £££ (I also found the level of service from Neil Willies to be far better than my previous insurer).

I suppose it's all relative and depends on each individuals circumstances, some people will be better off with a standard policy while others will save with a classic car policy.

Submariner, you sound very negative about insurance, I guess there is a story there somewhere smile We are not all bad guys you know, some of us do try to help as best we can!

No Claims Bonus is earnt as a percentage in addition to years and usually works with insurers on private car policies as follows;-

1 year = 30% Discount
2 years = 40% Discount
3 years = 50% Discount
4 years = 60% Discount
5 years = 60% Discount, some insurers may allow 65% Discount
6 years = 60% Discount, some insurers may allow 65% Discount
7 years = 60% Discount, some insurers may allow 65% Discount

and so on ...... the discount in the majority of cases doesn't usually increase from 60%/65% regardless of the actual years you have earnt it for. Obviously there will be some differences to these figures, but this is the usual with most.

Thanks

I also have a coupe on a modern classic (limited mileage policy) which is absolutely perfect for me as I don't have any no claims bonus as i'm a company car driver. Also if I did have bonus I like most would use it on my main car and therefore i am very gratefull that such a policy exists so that I could afford to own a coupe.
Obviously everyone's situation is different but "horse's for courses"as they say.
