I am getting fed up with my Mintex pads squealing (despite shims). I had a part worn set of Pagid Blues put on by Roger and they worked very well with little noise. Now considering getting a new set of Blues, but Roger cautioned saying that they were often squealing themselves.

What is your experience, do the PBs squeal?

Thanks

Cant help on the blues. But my yellows do as soon as they get warm.

I had two sets of blues one after another and both squealed at very low road speed. At higher speeds they were silent laugh

My Yellows are silent 99% of the time - I get the occasional light squeal when braking very gently

No problems here on my R29 yellows. Very slight squeal from the front when feathering the brakes, but otherwise fantastic.

Is the yellow a step up from the blue?

I have the blue at the minute and they are nearly finished, they have been good but looking for a bit more bite, maybe the carbotech even. Just waiting to get paid at the end of the week and I'll place the order.

Yep, both yellows are a step up from the blue. Yellows are racing compounds whereas the blues are a "street" compound and for light track use.

I'd tread carefully with the R29 compound, as I had 2 track days and a total of around 1600 miles from a set. This was after using at 3 sets the older R19 yellow compound succesfully with far better longevity.

But, comparing either of these to carbotechs is like light and day. XP-8/10's are the way to go. BUT, they squeal like a herd of breeding donkeys, whereas the pagid yellows are much quieter. So for your use, and anyone who is looking for great performing pads for a daily drive, I'd err towards the pagid R19 compound.

I'm now on 7.000 kilometers on my R29's with 3 trackdays (Spa and Zandvoort). They still look fresh inside and out. Short tracks with less cooling (speeds) and more braking seems to wear them out quite quickly. They are made for endurance racing and generally this takes place on fast and long tracks. People have commented on the Coupe's lack of cooling of the inner pads, but at higher speeds (over 90) this doesn't seem to be such a problem.

I think you should assume that all pads will squeal, and buy based on the performance you want, and then if they turn out to not squeal, that will be a bonus! Just turn up the ICE!

I've had several sets of Pagid blues - sometimes they squeal at low speed, sometimes not. No worse than any other pads I've had for noise, but they do last really well. At the mo' they're silent. Doh!

What rear pads do you use with XP8/10?

Doesn't really make much difference in my experience. IIRC I put some ferrodo ds2500 pads on last time.

I've used Tarox sport pads @ rear, longlasting and worked well.

I had a look at Pagid's page but they don't do rear pads. Doh!

@Per: Do you have a number for the Tarox pad?
