Can I bring along a mate that used to drive touring cars? Oh - and he worked at a go kart track when he was a nipper....he was never that good really - and he's got fat now in his old age!

If you want a really good laugh I'll bring my little brother along - he thinks using the breaks and lifting off the accelerator is for pansies. This was reflected when I took him on a track day at brands - the instructor gave him 3 out of 10 for braking, and I've never seen / heard an MG slide so often! he has got better since though!

Make the username stickers the right size so they fit on the back of a helmet - so you know who you're chasing or who's just overtaken you!

If would be cool if we cuold get enough people to hold out for a GP event? The type where you have heats, a semi and a final. Defintely the best way to go Karting!

I've just spoken to daytona, all going ahead.

Of some relevance to Graham and Stuart, is that the karts are all twin engine pro-karts with a maximum speed of 70mph, their insurance only covers 16 yrs and up.

Anyone whom states they are younger than 16 yrs of age are not allowed to race alongside in this event unfortunately. So need to bear this in mind, everyone will need to state they are 16 yrs and older,...yes yes I know about your mental age Kevin!!!

As the Red Lion People know I bring my 13 yr old son,Stuart with me.
He's up for this big time and he says he will just go slower Now knowing my son he is competative but I'`m banking on the fact that these Karts will be alot faster than he has encountered before and he will act accordingly

What would you guys do?

1/ Go karting. Bring son but watch
2/ Go Karting. Say he's 16 so he can do it too
3/ Not go at all

One thing to bear in mind. We will have an A+E Doc in attendance
Do you think number 2 is just being to irresponsible?

While Daytona may advertise these Karts as capable of 70mph, they will do well to reach 50mph on the main back straight.

Also I've been off at absolute full speed on the end of backstraight when it started to rain once. Caught me out bigtime! I went full whack into some tyres side on. Didn't hurt at all. But then I am a double-'ard barstard.

There has never been fatality in karting the world over - so they brag. The worst injury I've ever heard of was a broken arm.

Depends how big he is. If there's room for him to slide around in a seat, the potential for injury and being thrown out of the Kart is obviously much higher, I guess hence the age restrictions.

I'd be more worried about him not racing round like he knows how to race and treating others with no respect, then someone like me using his head as a rolling road for the coop...

I suppose the question you should ask is, would you knowingly drive your family around without insurance? Thats effectively what your son would be doing; ok, the risks might be less due to the lower speeds, but its not like it will be an empty track with no other risk factors. Sorry to be so blunt, but the insurance is there to cover everyone involved and also Daytona themselves - I think we all know too well that insurance companies will look for any kind of loophole to avoid paying out if something went wrong.

Daytonas karts are quick - but not brutal (not been to this track - but have been to their sandown one). Depends on you really.

When I was 14 I had my first go in a really quick kart (which I was too young for officialy BTW) - went straight over a load of banking and landed in some tyres the other side - had a bruise 4 inches wide going half way round my thigh from the seat, and some nasty scrapes. No breaks though, but I was limping for a few weeks.

I did learn from it though....

I've never been sure exactly what their insurance covers, you sign a disclaimer which proclaims that 'motorsport can be dangerous', protecting them from being liable for any injury you might sustain whilst on track anyway!

Bottom line, he's got to be over 4 ft 7" to operate any of the adult karts, which I'm sure he is.

Can he not drive the single engined karts? With his weight advantage he'll probably be just as quick.

p.s. I certainly wouldn't make him watch us having fun on a kart track!!
