Well, Ecrab, Mr Tickle & I had a good day at an MX-5 infested Donington on Tuesday, where I burned my way through almost 2 tanks of fuel in a shade over 200 miles. Tyres well and truly scrubbed. Mr Tickle black and blue from being thrown around as my passenger all day.
The MX-5's were there testing ahead of their series race at Donny. To say they were not following the laws of a track day (ie did not pull over to let us faster folk overtake!) was an understatement!! Couple of supercharged MX'5's we had a good ding dong with first time out, unfortunately the camera didn't work, and a bit of badge snobbery with a Porsche that didn't yield and so we had to overtake on the grass on the hill after Craner curve. So much for allowing the faster car to overtake, by pulling over, giving a clear indication and backing off the power!
Technical issues on the day;
Ecrab had a few issues with brake judder from his Pagid blacks, and I had one issue going down Craner where the fuel pump cut out, so I had to run onto the grass, stop and it restarted and all was fine for the remainder of the day. That apart, both cars arrived and left under their own steam.
Couple of vids that did come out, first one ends in a little spin, but we were blatting past most things, apart from an insane 205 GTI
Session 2 Second vid shows us forcing a Porsche 966 into a spin before the fuel pump cut out episode going down Craner.
Session 3 Unfortunately the camera didn't record any of our afternoon sessions, where things got more and more entertaining. One particular MX-5 not yielding on the fast back straight, so blatting past at 125 and not being let back on the racing line ahead of a tight chicane doesn't leave much space to go
And 3/4 abreast overtaking
Some good overtaking moves as well I was pulling at the end of the day, getting past with split seconds to spare before putting on the anchors and getting it to stick round the corner. All good fun, and whilst not quite God, I have Tony as my witness
Now on the to-do list before Spa;
New recording equipment
New track tyres
New front and rear discs
Investigate fuel pump cut out
Buy more oil
