Oh by the way, gents - you're all trying WAY too hard.... - not many girls go for a desperate man

@ gurly_racer - you clearly haven't found the right man yet wink - if I were comparing the Coupe to a man, it would be more like:-

They emotionally stimulate you
They physically please you
They financially screw you
Very rarely nice to you, but when they are, they are VERY nice
The rides always firm
They take alot of looking after... (I'll give you that one...)

nah, the coop is clearly female......

takes ages to make her look good
costs an arm and a leg to maintain
mess your mind up with paranoia
sound nice but bad emissions
fast ride but you worry what you're breaking
need "shoes" far too often rolleyes

He constantly goes on and on about how he thinks it is a horrid car, it looks ugly, badly designed, what the hell were fiat doing making that, when I win the lottery I'm going to have every single one crushed. Etc. Along with insults about me being a woman, shouldn’t like cars and all the rubbish that goes along with what.

Obviously I get pretty angry at him and disagree with what he is saying and fight for the coupe but that tends to inspire him to continue. I will not placate him even though it seems the easier option. I tell him he is welcome to his opinion and I don’t need to hear it every day but he still goes on and on......

Anyway this morning, he spent an hour talking at me about how he thinks the Fiat Coupe looks like a Nissan Juke. Grrr! He has gone too far this time. Any ideas on how to shut him up, or is going to be fiat coupe or him?!? His chances aren’t looking good.

If I were a guy, I think it would be awesome to have a girlfriend who was not only interested in cars, but owned such a great one, and even liked working on it herself!

I hope this will be an interesting little discussion, all opinions welcome!
Thanks guys smile

Sounds like your fella needs to grow up!

With comments like that directed at you, maybe you should be looking for a real man that appreciates you?

All IMO of course smile

The serious bit - ask yourself honestly and maybe not on here, if it wasn't the Coupe, would he be picking on something else? Ie if you, 'for the sake of peace' bought a car of which he approves, and paid a garage to service it instead of getting stuck in, would he then have a problem with your friends, your other hobbies, your plans etc? What do you picture his ideal version of you to be? Is that too much of a compromise for you?

Is he trying to manipulate you to be something you are not or is it just friendly joking banter that's gone on too long?

As you've seen from the above posts, there are plenty of people who would be only too happy to be with someone who had a mechanical interest. I've seen this with other car and motorbike marques. Majority of enthusiasts are men but are all welcoming of female enthusiasts The fact that the above posters are mostly middle-aged, fat-bellied, drooling and in steady relationships doesn't mean that all car enthusiasts are.

Okay, now for the fun bit, since the boyfriend hasn't come on here to defend his actions, I'll try a little role-play:):)
------------------------------
Ok so wot's wiv you middle age Coop drivers tryin' it on wiv my <s>bi</s> gf an tellin her to keep her moneypit Coop when she could use the money she waists onit it on a brand new Hookiemalooki 2000 Snowmaster Pro AND a trip to Snowboardland Italy and a roof rack for my golf so I can fit snowboards on the top and we can all go snowboarding wiv me mates in the back without breaking down on the way and missing out on our snowboarding?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the girls on Snow (bullitin) board (geddit!) sbbuk.org, especially the minger ones reckon I should ditch her for one of them that really understands snowboard edges and rooster tails and what colour bobble hat is in season this year and appreciates the new Eco diesel Golf is kind to engangered fluffy animals on the South Pole and Africa not like the Coup which excretes nuclear waste and I'll tell you what, Col Gadaffi has a secret garage full of Coupes under his palace and he's mad too so that proves it.

In fact if she was a proper considerate girlfriend she'd get a van - so I could put my snowboard stuff there and me 'n' the lads and maybe Tracy from HR, who always says she's up for it when I talk about Snowboards, could drive the Golf without damaging the upholstery with our snowboard boots. That way show wouldn't have to listen to us talk about snowboarding techniques cos I'm thoughtful like that me. All she ever does is moan about the cold and she's not sensible at all with all this Coup timewasting, how's she going to have time for that when I've got he chained to the sink bein a sensible and dutiful wife taking care of my needs ?????

If I am I've been lurking on here for 2 years waiting for my moment to strike so either your boyfriend plans things long, long in advance or it's not me/him and I'm only here for the technical engine info. So I was bored on Sunday and thought it would be hilarious if he came on and tried to sell his Golf and Snowboard lifestyle. Since he is unlikely to come on here to state his case, it would be a shame not to do it for him. smile

Or it could really be me messin wiv your head like Becky said so you really ought to get off the forum and make my supper and get me a Stella while you're at it love. smile
