currently have FK coilovers on. had them for AGES however im now bored of how much they bounce about.

but what's the best solution considering i want less bounce/more comfort(extremely diff to achieve i know ;)/ least cost???

a) get bravo top mounts and 100nm springs for front
b) Standard shocks and pi/eibach springs
c) can i just replace front with standard shocks
and have lowering springs all round?

there's probably a few more options but cant think of any more. if u know of any - let me know too

cheers, Marcus

I swear by Osrav / Eibach

Firm, but very well controlled and can be quite soft if you want

Not cheap though....

I have driven Nigel's car and although it was short drive I can confirm his setup is very impressive.

Enjoying Coop ownership, second time round . Also enjoying RWD action in a thundering V8 E90 M3.

Marco - are there Koni's that are a direct fit for the coop? am surprised re Koni's as i always thought Billies were good with Eibachs. think i will look down this route further

Nigel - how much does all that cost - Osrav/eibach?

RMJ - Will definitely PM you once i get them off. prob be new year though.

Koni do inserts for the front shocks and koni rear shocks for the back!

this route is very good from what ive driven!
Billies work great with the Eibachs, so do the konis, Osrav ect..

no matter what shock you decided to get, i would definatly buy the eibach springs!

Koni are rebound adjustable only, osrav are bump and rebound adjustable.

My money would be spent on osrav's.

Osravs are about £575 - Eibachs are about £200 - £250

Not cheap, admittedly, but better by far than a cheap coilover of the same cost. Everyone that drives or rides in my car has commented on the ride quality - firm, but very well controlled

Bilstein B6 shocks/std springs for comfort, Bilstein/Eibach springs for both comfort + looks.

You do not want std shocks and lowering. THAT is crashy.

I've been running standard shocks and 35mm lowered Eibachs for ages now, and it's not crashy really, I used to do 220 miles without stopping every friday and sunday with no problems, and I now spend 2 hours a day commuting on bad roads, and I don't find it uncomfortable in the least.
If coilovers didn't make you whine and cry everytime you drove the car then you'll be fine with lowered springs and standard shocks rolleyes

I have just had the lowering springs from Joe's group buy fitted (along with two new rear trailing arms and a n/s track rod end). The handling of the car has been completely transformed, even though she still has just the standard shocks. The ride is fine and she corners flat.

2 provisos - I haven't driven a Coupe with the full Eibach/Billies kit, and the previous suspension was pretty shagged. I'm not a track star either, but I am VERY happy with this set-up

Echoing tim42's comments - when I bought my Moonie, it was 100% standard, but had only done 24,500 miles and the suspension was probably better than the Eibach / Koni setup on my Sprinty (which had done well over 100,000 hard miles by the time it was removed)

So - if your suspension is feeling rough, and you don't necessarily want a track-oriented ride, consider going for new standard kit - it's better than you rememeber!

However, I still prefer the adjustability - I can have my car quite soft (although still a bit harder than standard) or rock-hard, and anywhere inbetween

i`m still happy with standard springs and Bilsteins I feel the bilsteins just give that extra bit of much needed (in my opinion) body control, and are still give a `fairly` comfy ride

was Paul S,now just paul...Member since Oct 2000,Coupe may be FATALLY injured - :(oh no it's not smile

I can't wait to get my group buy springs on now and I already have Osrav on to complement them.
The trouble is I can't get the coupe over to motormech yet as someone has put rocksalt all over the M6 !!
Roll on spring.

wow - nigel you weren't kidding re them not being cheap.

was fortunate to get a payrise which kicks in jan next year so seriously considering getting the maserati i've always wanted.......OSRAV may be too much money to spend considering the coup will be 2nd car or (GOD FORBID) even sold!!!

interesting re your views on standard set-up actually.
thanks to all for the comments

OK - seeing as you're into your Masers, I would say that the difference between a Coupe on standard suspension, and one on Eibachs and Osravs, would be the same difference between an early 3200GT and an Assetto Corsa

Or to put it another way, when driving at less than 5/10, you'd probably prefer the stock setup, but as soon as you start to drive the car like the makers intend, the deficiencies will quickly show up.

BTW, Osravs are cheaper than Maseratis wink

Does the Assetto corsa have the Skyhook suspension?

No - that was introduced as an option on the 4200. The Assetto Corsa had uprated ARBs, 15mm drop, stiffer springs and electronically-controlled dampers, but it wasn't called Skyhook (think of it as an early predecessor to Skyhook and you'd be closer)

hahaha yes indeed Nigel they are cheaper. smile

Actually think i'll be looking at the 4200. the misses is in to cars fortunately so is prepared to share the cost, "as long as (in her own words) you dont sell the coup as I likes the power"

Music to my ears - i will marry her! cool
