Dropped the car off today for the last job on the list this year, a complete respray. I think a few guys on here have used the same place...Briley Coachworks in Kent. I'll collect it in two weeks and I can't wait!!! laugh

Thankfully the coup is a weekend car so it doesn't get left at the station or Tesco for others to ruin it.

I paid £2100. For that they are replacing the rear bumper that I supplied. The side pinninfarina badges are being permanently removed to prevent the shell rusting from the inside out. They will also remove the glass before spraying.

I though that was quite a good price?

One other thing, they are also going to cleanup the headlights.

yes thats a very good price

i know a few places that a window out all trim etc off would start atleast 3k but the work and customer care can not be knocked

but 2k does seem the norm starting price for alot of places

Updated with a few 'in progress' pics that Tim Briley sent me this evening. They have got to work making good the dents and horror job the last bodyshop left me with. There will be a few more pics to come as the glass comes out, and the full body prep...etc smile

Sorry but they are in a bit of a muddle.

One downside is that he could get the rear light cups out, they've been glued in with something super strong and they were afraid of breaking them on removal. The result should be just the same though.

tis' a shame they never removed the side skirts & cleaned up what's under them, bit OTT, however it's looking good so far.

The devil is in the detail, and being the LE black will look lovely.

I always wondered why they never did it as a light metallic black cool love

looking good matey, must be so exciting!

tell me, do bodyshops 'colour sand' the car once its been painted?

seen this done on tv before looks nerve racking to say the least!

black is an extremely difficult colour to get perfect i know that, as it shows every tiny imperfection so easily.

if you mean wet flattin and polishing up after baked , then yes most bodyshops will do it . if they just do quick job or do it properly is something you would have to ask shop in question/used

i chose not to do it on my car when i painted it as it didnt need it .and also to leave enough clear so in few years when it needs heavey mopping. i can allow for it and remove any fine scratches/swrills etc

its normal to denibb(small patches where dirt etc has landed) any dirt/dust out the paint and polish . but flattin a whole car back and polishing up is not a quick job done properly.

its not nerve racking as such , as a painter can do this and would have put on enough product to allow for this . also hand painted finish tends to be thicker then a factory finish

just by hand using p1500 working to p2000 wet and keeping it wet .i dont like block for wet sanding like this as you cant feel the dirt or bits till its too late . the bits come from the dirt stuck to paint as it breaks off
although you can hear them when using blocks ,but blocks tends to put more marks in too
then up as high as p3000+ on da sander before mopping

Looks wonderful wink . Just wish that I could afford that sort of job on my Moon, but she'll have to stay scruffy for a while - clutch and mapping will come first. There must be a few owners in Kent to organise a lunchtime meet in the new year....

Great stuff,
Tim
