Hi,
I have a 1999 20v VIS coupe and want to replace discs and pads, front and rear. Standard is fine, I dont need anything more than that, though if there is little price difference then of course I would consider it. Where is the best place to buy the whole lot and how much should I expect to spend? A lot of sellers on the net advertise 20v but then the discs are for Brembo callipers so clearly are Turbo discs. I have tried mailing Alternative Autos but their email system doesnt work.
Any advice is appreciated

They have a phone No, though I don't know it. Any local motor factor can supply standard pads and discs. Prices will vary according to how much discount you get and the make and quality of parts you choose.

It is also a shame that this site has an unusually high number of cocky, arrogant members who firstly fail to consider that not all people have the opportunity to ring these companies through the day when their phones are manned and therefore need to use email, or that those same members might actually want some advice from experienced users as to both the best brakes to buy and the best place to buy them from. Now, remember what your parents told you when you were young, if you haven't got anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Any answers from one of the non-prick members?

I have the prices from my local motor factor as supplied by my mechanic, though I would like further information on standard stuff that I may be able to purchase cheaper online or better than standard that may be available online for near standard prices.

just thought id let you know, only a month or so ago i replaced all the disks and pads on my 20v na (there the same as the vis) and i used apec disks and pads, these pads are spot on and if im honest the brakes on my na feel better than the brembo's on my turbo.
Ill try and get a price for you but im sure they were around £80 for the front disks and pads, cant remember how much the rears were but they are very cheap and the brakes are perfect,
Hope this helps

He wasnt piss-taking, he was just being rude! Yes it is a clear case of pot and kettle but that is what results from such stupid, puerile answers. Look around the web, this forum does have an unfortunate reputation for being populated by rude, offensive and unhelpful people. I have had some great advice off this forum but it is always marred by a cocky, derisive and pointless answer. Yes AA do indeed have a presence on the net, but their site is very light on detail and does not list brands or specifications and their email portal does not work so I cannot ask them a question.
Thank you to Niff and Zonta for your valued input, I can now source what I need on your recommendations

Mollymoo, I have to disagree with your view on this forum, it's possibly one of the more friendly and helpful forums around. Whilst I agree Matt was being sarcastic in his answer to your original question, he didn't deserve to be called a prick!! It seems that the only rude, offensive and unhelpful person on this thread is yourself? Anyway, back to your original question; If it's just standard items you're looking to replace on your coupe then any motor factor will be able to supply these. If it's genuine fiat replacements you're looking for then yes AA are one of the cheapest around but unfortunately you can't order online. Try sending Joe(countrycruising) a PM, he may be able to sort you out.

Thank you to Niff and Zonta for your valued input, I can now source what I need on your recommendations I am pleased you are sorted now. I replaced my disc/pads from Steve at AA. This was achieved on T'interweb quite easily to secure a tel. no. and parts list. Actually not much more difficult than joining and posting on this friendly, knowledgeable forum of coupe-lovers ...

I think it may just be the difference in opinion between those that are on here all the time and those that aren't. To me this place is a great community and like any group of friends piss taking is the norm if not complusory, but if your new to the group then you cant always tell when people are just taking the piss or being intentionally rude. e.g purple jumpers and just my 2p Paul

Following Zonta's advice I purchased a full set of discs and pads direct from MTec. They were quality kit and my mechanic was very impressed. Still bedding them in but they seem good so far.
Thanks for the help

Thanks for the help Do they squeal like pigs being rogered from behind by purple jumper wearing gheys?! My Mintex pads on mine squeal thus - NEVER again! Plus I haven't seen any significant performance improvement.
