Sub in rear panel? #1058321

Having just had my deal on a Blueflame Race Cat fall through rolleyes I've decided to finally sort out some bass in the coop. cool

I've already got a set of components up front and an amp that can run tri-mode so I just need a sub.

As it's a steel bulkhead at the rear, I'm looking at mounting a sub behind one of the rear panels to get some decent bass inside the cabin (these are the panels that house the standard rear speakers). I want to retain one of the standard rear speakers to run my Parrot Bluetooth Kit through so really need to try to get away with one sub.

Question is this; what size sub can I get behind a rear panel?

I know this can be done but can't find any info.

I am after the same thing. I want more bass but do not want to sacrifice my boot space.

Last audio guy i spoke to said, it was a waste of time as there is too little space to make any real world change..so looking for opinions from anyone?

I looked into this last year and came to the conclusion it could be done but the bass output wouldn't be up to much (bass speaker should be pointing out the rear of the car to get the reflective crazy bass sound - i think this means increasing the distance between you and the speaker?) . I have fitted a bass box that is removable, still get my golf clubs in with it in place but it is only a ten incher!

And you dissed my 10 incher!

These again have been discussed before, i even asked about the flat sub by Pioneer...again the experts suggested they aren't up to much, here's the link to the sub:

The flatter/low throw subs aren't up to much. Likewise don't bother with free air (enclosureless) subs...

You can get subs optimised for small enclosures, I'll try and did some links out.

If you're really tight for space, you could either look at a custom built one to fit round the wheelarch - can be made to look stealthy and lnits how much boot space you loose, or for anyone that isn't bothered about a spacesaver you could use the wheel well.

The rear quarter panels are too small for what you are after and you would need to sound deaden them really thoroughly to avoid the halfords special panel vibration effect... If you did you could get 8 inchers in there but I personally wouldn't advise it...

From my perspective I just want to get more meaty mid-range sound, not earth shattering bass. Some of my music is dance/pop, but majority is classical that has been modernised such as girl band Bond, Maksim, Rhydian, Tenors. I listen to a lot of talks and lectures so looking for real clarity with the benefit of the odd pop/rock song (Queen/Guns N Roses)

Sony headunit (with bluetooth in-built), standard rears and some alternative cheapies 6x9 in the front and standard tweets..

My missus's micra speakers sound better..no joke.

Ohh and only the left front speaker is working now..

;-(

The connectors to the speaker have more than likey been pulled off when you drop the window. Take the panel off to check, if it has re-route the speaker cable along the existing cable loom. This should at least keep it working.

Why have you fitted 6x9's in the front when 16.5cm round speakers fit straight in?

I'm guessing a cheap way for more bass? However it sounds like if you are using the standard tweets then you are only able to run the low and mid bass through the 6/9's and linited by the standard crossover (a cheap capactitor rather than proper setup).

Front components (or good 2 ways if you dont like messing around with tweeters and modifying the standard tweeter dash pods) are the most importnat thing you'll buy along with a decent head unit and a good quality amp to run them and a 10 or 12" sub in the boot.

Nazo when I'm back on the road, I can happily have a look and test them for you at at Ace Cafe meet FOC and discuss options for you...
