Hi Guys, I've just joined the forum, and am in the process of sorting out my club membership, and I must say the site is excellent! (Just for the record, I have a Metallic Green, '98 20v 2L (Non-Turbo)).
Anyway, I came across a tip on the site on how to fit rear LED lights. They look really good! Can anyone tell me where to buy these, as I've scanned the internet a few times, but can only find suppliers of LED replacement bulbs, and not the actual lights.
Thanks a lot, Kevin p.s. Does anyone have the paint code for my particular colour - I think it may be called 'Forest Green', but I'm not absolutely sure - dark metallic green. Halfords do quiet a good paint matching service, but it's a bit hit and miss without knowing the exact shade. I have a few bits and bobs to 'touch up', and lastly, I'm about to fit sill covers (side skirts). What adhesive should I use?!! Sorry about the long 'p.s.'! Thanks again!

The lights are normally bought as Hella componants, or like mine they are from another company (an alternative to the Hellas), to fit them you will need rubber cups or as i did make my own out of some old rear lights (took me a while to do).

Do you have a link to a site that sell the Hella ones, or by 'Hella Components', do you mean that we have to buy individual parts, and make them up? I'd really like to just buy some 'off the shelf', if that's possible...

there are not any that are straight fit off the shelf, yes you have to buy the parts individually (sp? i'mn rubbish at it) the centres (indicator/fogs) and tail/brake lights are separate too... this is where i got mine from (looks like they have some new ones out) http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/lights_rear.html

Thanks! I've added that site to my favourites! Just to be a further pain, do you have a list of the part numbers you purchased from them in order to assemble your rear lights? I'm not sure what the diameter of the 'outer's should be... There'll be one set with inner as sideys and outers as stops, and one set with inners as fog/reverse, and outers as indictors. Is that what you have?

Ok, thanks anyway. At least now I know where these things come from. I've already emailed SVC, and they're very helpful! All I need to do now is find the dimensions of the originals so I buy the correct ones. I've seen the guide on how to fit these with a rubber cup, and it doesn't look that difficult.. (Famous last words!!!)

Hi, I've done a bit more investigation on this, and SVC are definitely very helpful. One question: In Cowboy's 'How To Fit LED Rear Lights' guide, he has a rubber boot which hold his LEDs (they're from another supplier in Italy). Just wondered if you used a similar method of waterproofing, and if so, are the rubber boots just Coupe parts, or are they specialised? And what is the diameter of the outer LED? Thanks a lot, Kevin

these lights would be much better if you could get a setup that looks like the reflector setup on the right but lit up with a solid red ring. then i would have four of these with indicator/fog/reverse in the middle. pic link ninja

Ok, missed the bit about 98mm! I'll see if I can get on to Cowboy, and see where he got his boots. (haha!).
Kevin ps If you didn't bother with the boots, how did you successfully waterproof your LEDs?

where the internal light and outer light butt up i used a silicon sealant, and for the brackets i used an old set out rear lights and butchered those so that the components would fit then sealed them both together, the rear light clusters have a 'gasket' that sits between the lights and lights holders, i just used that when fitting...

I've been in touch with 'Cowboy'. His car is fitted with rear LEDs which he got from a guy in Italy. (mailto:flavioaltobelli@email.it WebSite: http://www.tuningmaster.net I have a picture of the kit if someone can tell me how to get a .jpg into a reply) If you look at his 'How to fit rear LEDs' guide on the forum, you can see what they look like. Excellent actually! The kit is about £280 and includes 4 rubber cups to seal the lights, 4 outer red LED rings, and 4 inner housings which take standard bulbs, although you'd obviously fit the LED replacement type. They're really easy to fit (See guide: http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=563072#Post563072) Just got to save my pennies for a bit now! Actually..as we're on the subject of lights, does anyone have an answer to this question... I noticed that my headlights weren't what you'd call brilliant, and started looking into Xenon upgrade kits. There seem to be loads about, which just plug in with a ballast resistor etc. I rang a company called Powerbulbs.com, and was told that they don't sell them as they consider them to be 'dodgy', and probably illegal, (I've been blinded loads of times by cars coming towards me - usually bl**dy Range Rovers, but other cars too - obviously fitted with xenon upgrades!), and that if I want to upgrade to xenon, I'd have to pay around £800! They sold me a pair of Philips X-Treme Power bulbs which supposedly give out 80% more light than other bulbs, and I must admit, they ARE a lot brigher.... ********* Auto Express Reviews --------------------- "Super-bright filament is the key to the X-treme Power’s success – that and its ability to put the light hot spot at the 75-metre mark. The difference was clear in the tunnel with the wide beam further up the road than rivals. Top performance and a clear 50 Plus winner" - October 2009 "Nothing can match the original high-performance bulb. Our two samples varied, but both outshone the Osram." "All the electronic safety wizardry on today’s cars will not help if you can’t see the road ahead – which is why Philips’ X-treme Power takes our top accessory prize, as it sets a new benchmark for headlamp bulbs. When we tested it alongside both standard and high-performance bulbs, it put them all, literally, in the shade. Based on the light 75 and 50 metres ahead of the driver, the best beam rating the rest could manage was 107, but the new X-treme hit 146 – a massive difference easily seen on the light-tunnel wall. As with all high-performance bulbs, Philips has taken the tolerances allowed by the regulations and pushed them to the limit, not only burning the filament harder, but also reducing the glass envelope to increase gas pressure and deliver more light. A brilliant road safety improvement." ********** ...I came across a thread on this forum (which I now can't find!!), about Xenon upgrades and how good the thread's author says his is. So what's the sketch with Xenon? Are the £100-ish kits ok or not??!!! I have to polish my headlamp covers as they're not as clear as they should be, and when that's done and they're clear again, the lights will probably be even brighter with the Philips bulbs, but I'd definitely like to go to Xenon if possible. If you've already fitted a kit, and it's ok, please let me know which kit you fitted!!

I got a HID kit a couple of years ago for around £75 off ebay, but they are availiable on there for about £50, the reason people get blinded by these are that once they fit them they dont adjust the headlights to the right level. They are not illegal either.

Did you have to fit the ballast resistors to the underside of the bonnet with brackets of some kind?

Most HID kits come with brackets for the Ballasts, I fitted the lightweight/thin ballasts and it was not a difficult job, the difference is astounding in the dark.
One of the best upgrades ever.
I have to admit I do like the rear LEDs, can you post a photo of the kit, or email it to charlie DOT crokerATgmailDOTcom

How did we end up talking about HID's when this thread is about rear LED's? And more importantly, where are the off-topic police when you need them?
