2.0 16v turbo

With an engine taken from a thouroughbread rally car, there was no excuse for not fitting the turbo version into the Coupe's engine bay. The cost would be quite low since the car was produced by hand at Pininfarina's factory, so no expensive production lines needed to be prepared.

Typical of the time though, with many safety and comfort features appearing on new cars, high weight was an issue at the time. Its job however was to offer an ideal compromise between comfort and a sporty feeling rather than sheer supercar performance. But with 195 stampeding horses and 290Nm torque, the 16v turbo Coupe was anything but slow. A large reserve of power, resulting in great overtaking performance.

To harness all that turbo power on a front wheel drive car, Fiat didn't go cheap. A visco drive makes sure all power is actually sent quite efficiently through two wheels, preventing the inside wheel from spinning and sending more power to the outside wheel where the grip is.

The 'Plus' version of the 16v Turbo also gained 16" wheels.
