I am amazed.

A car that has been sat for three years rusting in someones drive for three years is up to this price, sorned, no MOT and the seller wouldn't open the car up (I went and took a look today). I am definately out at this price. It needs a respray, dent in the bonnet, dent in the rear quarter, paint flaking on the bonnet and mirror. And rusty brakes, springs. It needs a new clutch and cambelt and I would be on the safe side and change the tyres as well. Paint chips in most panels as well and the door handle on one side had a lot of corrosion.

On the plus side, the seats didn't look too bad for a 123k car (though the steering wheel would need recovering). and its red. It seemed pretty straight though I was slightly worried about a mark on the windscreen post that looked as though the bonnet has been pushed into it (I could be mistaken there though).

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220562704189

overpriced or what ? Whoever buys this is going to be spending at least 2k on top of the price to get it back into a roadworthy condition.

I spotted this too - not sure about the claims about BHP on a (standard) Plus though! (although I do recall some discussion a couple of years ago about the very last 20VT Coop's coming out of the factory with "more" than 220bhp). I dare guess that whoever wins won't have seen it in person before they go collect so are in for a let-down when they do from what you say sb.

Ah that would be the old red top rumour, any car that had a red rocker cover, ie plus and LEs had an additional 20 - 30 bhp, its true you know, I read it on the internet!

That is also true as that car had 240 as standard, so it had 5bhp for being a Y reg and 15 bhp for the leather seats wink

I recon it will sell for over 2k and then get relisted after the first inspection and the bidder runs away lol, I think the seller has picked this up for next to nothing and is blaging it up big time.

I know it's a plus but I wouldn't pay no more then £1500 the most, and I think 2k is short of getting this mint again

I have seen it. £1500 max unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY want a project car in red and are prepared to spend some to get it looking nice.

But the tyres have been sat in the same place for three years. everything is rusty and the bodywork and engine needs sorting.

I couldn't see the condition of the oil cooler pipes/radiator or anywhere under the bonnet.

I would urge you to go and look at it in daylight before you bid.

and I agree with Audioguy, people are buying blind on ebay and there is no comeback on the bidder as they can walk away without paying these days.

To get this plus to the standard of my car I would need to spend at least 3k.

Paint 1-1.5k
engine min 600
tyres/brakes/pads - £500
All the other bits that will need changing.... ???

Pit and Money spring to mind. I am sure a specialist would be able to do it cheaper. A really nice working red plus with 78k in dark red metallic came up on here and sold for around 4k.

You really would need to love the car.. will wait for it to be relisted laugh

If you factor in just what's needed to make it a reliable runner you'd be looking at spending the best part of £2k easy.

It would be interesting to see what the underside looks like as well chinny

Just seen this comment. He is doing a good job of selling it.

Hi, I'm not a mechanic or anything like that, just a lover of this marque and although I've never owned one, this one kind of ticks all the boxes, wouldn't you agree? Therefore, in your valued opinion, how much do you reckon it would cost to make good, ie clutch, alternator, timing belt, mot etc etc. A "ball park" figure would be most appreciated. Regards

Hi, I reckon £150 or a clutch, £100 for timing belt kit, (you might as well do that while the engines out), £250 on paintwork, plus a new alternator and maybe allow a couple of hundred pounds more for anything else you fancy doing or find that needs doing, obviously there is labour on top of the mechanics. Hope that helps. Regards, Adrian.

well it would cost just parts as i can do the job my self!

the clutch is no issue for me same for the cam belt!
service is a given along with all the filters and oil (get it all at trade)

brakes are not going to be that expensive also.

just want to know what is the body work like?

3 years of sitting.... thats along time. it may need a lot but as i am a sucker for punishment i would like this as a working progress!

p.s Alternator will be easy as its at the front!

Its taken a whack on the passenger side front bumper, this has split the paint but I think the bumper is ok. the bonnet is creased very slightly at the edge (easy repair for a bodyshop), bonnet has the usual stone chips. The passenger side windscreen pillar has some scratches at the bottom. The passenger side door handle is badly corroded. On the rear quarter there is a dent about the side of a tennis ball, not too deep though. The passenger side mirror is missing most of its lacquer. The bonnet has two a large patch of lacquer that has lifted. The drivers door has a pea sized dent/scratch on the leading edge doing down to the metal as far as I can see.

The tyres need changing (because they have been sat for three years). And the alloys could do with a refurb.

The drivers door skirt has lifted/pulled away at the front so would need fixing. The usual scratches marks around the car apart from the above.

Ideally it would need a full respray to make it perfect.

why would 3 years sitting be worse than 3 years on the roads in their current state (obviously other than brakes/tyres?

fwiw having had the trouble i've had with my plus i wouldn't risk this, but i could fully understand why someone with time and possibly less than 2k might be tempted - someone like marco with the skills, time and mates to help....i'd love to see this back on the road looking good

Proccy... im touched... i just dont know what to say!

this is a shock to me mario and nick.... nearly brought a tear to my eye!!

well, its not a yes or no yet, im still looking at the buying this to put it back on the road *IF* i buy it!

3 years standing, the tyres will go flat and crack, not safe to use so scrap them! also, 3 years cars tend to rust BIG time over in england! all the elements affect it when it sits.

When your driving the car, you clean it, treat it and service it. keeps it in check.

My 500 in italy is still mint because of the conditions! but over here it would rust and fall apart!

it would be nice to see another resurected, especially it being the best colour ..which is why its got more bhp of course...the one john is doing for me had only been stood a year and i needed discs, pads, flexis, all brakepipes,a spring, cambelt, clutch, maf, coil packs ,as well as full service and theres things i can't remember.. mine was running well so a none runner with bodywork issues tyres etc has to be 3k to do properly i would think .. big miles though ..if it was cheaper i would have considered it for my next project (forged) but i think it could end up owing scary money to do right..i'm sure anyone thats done one knows they take on a life of there own and you end up spending more on the bits you dont see coming than on the budget for the original build.. or is that just me thats happened to?..also if its got body bumps have a real close look..mine looked good untill john took the front off to fit the pro alloy..it was then we discovered it had been in a bump and needed a go in the jig and a new bits of front end welding in! beware buying without a full on inspection if you want to mend it

laugh Well yes that may well be true but I'm sure I remember seeing an electric-blue 6sp with cream leather for sale on here not long after I first joined and the owner claimed it was standard but had been rolling-road verified at 240bhp? confused £9k if I remember correctly

it seems to be doing ok so far, id expect that to clear £2000.

Buy with caution though, it WILL need everything doing, rad, oil cooler and pipes, clutch, belts, brake pipes & hoses etc.

The list is endless. Id give him £300 for it.

By the way, I know this garage although have never dealt with them. The garage has been there forever so I'd expect it to have a reasonable reputation - unless ownership has changed - and it's in a very affluent area too. Just FYI if anyone's interested.
