hi

first of all thank you FCC for the website and the forum; it's incredible to see how many people so far from Italy loves this great car !!

I'm an italian owner of a fiat coupe 20VT 1996; I have a problem from a long time but I want to solve it now!

The central console and the central tunnel are in very bad conditions (they are sticky and fatigued); I understood the cause of this problem: I have used wrong products to clean these surfaces (based on silicon), I need new parts but Fiat for original parts ask about 600 € for both.

Can you help me? I see around internet some pics of the console and tunnel made in carbon fiber.

Sorry for my poor english.
Thank you in advance.
Best Regards.

Davide Cervi

That should show you how to strip and clean the console.

Alternatively, contact countrycruising (on here) who will be able to provide replacements.

I don't recall a fibre replacement.

hi barnacle
why to not consider the console and tunnel in fiber material?

only for costs reasons? or for availability problems?

thx
Davide

I'm not aware of a fibre tunnel. That doesn't mean there isn't one, but I don't know of one.

It's a complex moulding with quite a lot of material; it wouldn't be cheap in glass fibre. In carbon fibre I'd be surprised if it were less than three or four hundred euros.

On the other hand, Joe breaks damaged cars and delivers to you the original article. It's going to be a fraction of the price...

I was this morning in Fiat service and I spoke with the chief of mechanicals; He told me that was difficult to find pure 100% methanol (chemical formula CH3OH) and on street markets there are at least 3 kind of methanol.

I ask to barnacle if is possible to know what kind of methanol is to be used....

Also official Fiat service is learning something new thanks to this forum!

ciao

"meths" sold in the UK is "methylated spirit" made from 90% ethanol plus 10% methanol plus a purple dye, it's a good cleaning agent to have when working on the car.

Methanol (100%) can be bought (usually in bulk quantities) and used in water/methanol injection, I have this on my Coupe wink
