Interested to hear peoples thoughts on this . I have heard a few people talk about the possibility of using twin turbos on a coop, and was wondering if this was a viable option. I myself have no intention of doing it, but it seems a good idea to me. Discuss

I know that Pug. In theory it will be laggy as hell mounting the turbo there - but works very well on that car....a fair few cars / trucks in the US have that configuration. Are you thinking one turbo in the engine bay, and one at the back? On of the major stumbling blocks is with the 5 cyl engine how to you have the turbo's split between the cylinders? Would normally be two manifolds with a turbo attached to each. Is there space for two turbos in the engine bay? Controlling them would also be complicated - aftermarket ecu etc.

More pipework means more LAG
Simple as that.
Also putting a turbo on a car like that is stupid and pointless, unless you plan to live where the roads are perfectly flat/smooth and you will never see a speed bump in your life.

As suba said, it's a known solution for many cars in the US. I've seen many Chevys and Fords with this setup.
I've never thought about it for the Coupe.. and I think it will be lagy for smaller engines.

It's a pretty crap solution even with just the one turbo, though it does get around space limitations in the engine bay. If you were feeding it from the output of an existing turbo it would work even more poorly, whilst at the same time making the original turbo work poorly due to all the extra back pressure it would see.

it could be made to work well but you'd really need two exhaust systems - one when on the first turbo then another one from the wastegate of the first turbo to the second turbo. here's a novel way of getting round the space limitations on a Marea Turbo

It wont be as efficient as a big single and if you want it sequential then good luck, because vacuum systems are hellish.

this kind of turbo system was done because of some laws, where you can put anything behind the front suspensions, or something like that..
useless where I live..

My main issue with the idea is that for an existing turbo car, the config becomes big LP turbo, small HP turbo, compounded compressors, compounded turbines but with a bypass for the HP turbine through to the LP or LP 2nd scroll.
The mechanics of it are all well and good and no-one will tell you an extra 5psi at the top end isn't welcome.
My problem is this.... The LP turbo will be physically large and has to connect to a filtered air inlet. Where do you put the air filter? All well and good to stuff it under the rear bumper on a track car (as the Pug in question) but on a road car? What about rain, stones and puddles? Do you end up with a stack, like an American truck, but sucking rather than puffing?
J.

Theres a video to this car on youtube too. I've seen it run and tbh it dont seem laggy. Its all down to pipework dimensions and setting the volume up for pressures as you'll all know.
Its possible to set it up well, but its a knife edge between perfect and waste of time.
But dont think it would compliment the coupe very well.
