Hi Guys,

I currently own a 20vt. It is a porto blue 98 (R) with 97k on the clock. The engine is in perfect condition after i cured a slight misfire problem with a new coil pack. I have had the clutch replaced about 25k ago, and the only 'mechanical' problem is the cracked exhaust manifold.

It has aircon, black leather and no sunroof. I also have a GrahamL chip fitted, speedo rings, Nomad boost gauge in place of clock, Collins dumpvalve, Bleed (set to 1.2 bar), Ram Air filter, etc etc.

Now the bad part.

Unfortunatley, my friend took my car from a car park after i left him inside with the keys. (popped back into the nightclub to say my goodbyes after he got ejected) The car was crashed less than a mile away 5 mins later.
The damage sustained to the car is all rear, as the car spun into the corner of a wall. This has left the back pannel by the lights, stoved in. The rear drivers wheel does not turn due to the impact.

My insurance company has decided that they are not going to pay out, as their version of 'theft' is one of 'Theft - Someone taking the veichle with the intention of permantley depriving me of it'. He did not intend to do this, so it wasn't stolen. How they work that out, i do not know. Also, I have not paid enough attention to do with the security of the veichle. Despite the fact that i left it in a secured car park, with someone who I thought was trust worthy....

So now I am left with a car that I cannot drive, and i need to recoup some of the money somehow.

I am due to get the car back later on this week, and shall post pictures as soon as i can.

This leaves me with a couple of options.

1. Sell the car as 'stolen and recovered'
2. Break the car

So that brings my question. Has anyone sold a 20vt on here before with simalar damage, and if so, what was the price?

And finally...... is there any interest in what was once, my pride and joy.

Regards

Rob

I'm sorry to say that breaking is probably your best option. Both the car and your mates legs.

I think the time that he is going to serve at HMP will do enough damage to him. I know this seems a silly thing to say after all this, especially as it really was my pride and joy, but, well, he didn't hurt or (god forbid) kill anyone in the crash. Metal can be replaced - skin and bone cannot (well not easily!!!).

I used to frequent this forum some time ago, and I have also had to re-register... are all the old posts still around? Are you able to point me in the direction of any 'breaking' posts, just to see how much i'm going to lose?

Thanks.

Forgive my ignorance, but do rex or carl by cars to break or are they just after something for a project?

I repair what ever is worth repairing, and break whats not, I can pick up repairables from a few hundred upwards, the last repairable 20VT cost me £450, it depends on the demand by dealers,
Within 6 months I expect to go back to Thailand for good so everything must be gone by then,

Why didnt you just tell the insurance company you crashed it ? they would have paid out no problem. They're always looking not to pay out so there's no chance they would have payed out for your friend taking the car. They wouldnt pay out if you left part of the window down and somebody stole it.

Because there may well have been witnesses that saw what appeared to be a drunken man leaving the coupe? because it's fraud? because the police caught the driver?

Coopless!

Unfortunately insurance co are entirely within their rights not to pay out :-( car left with the keys in it/ TWOC/ driven by a drunk and uninsured driver.. Don't know about cops doing your 'mate' some mate for theft, enough charges for TWOC, drunk driving, no insurance, probably reckless driving already. Hope he has a good brief in court...
