"Slight smoking at idle" #431197

Looking through the AT, as I do!, I notice a 20VT coupe for sale and everything looks good until one of the last sentences which reads.

"Slight smoking at idle"

What could that mean? And how much could it cost to repair?

By looking at the buyers guide it seems to indicate a turbo problem. Is that the only possibility?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Most likely to be the turbo seals.

Depends. £200 if it's just a turbo recon and you do the work yourself (which isn't difficult) or £700 if you need a new turbo. But that's not to say you couldn't fit a second hand working one, or buy a second hand good one and make it new with a £200 recon.

I wouldn't be put off if all it needs is a new turbo and it's otherwise good.

looks very nice that especially with aircon, leather and a sun roof, just remember if you are tall you may have trouble with headroom with the sunroof.
has the benefit of the strut brace too, although it has a BMC panel filter sticker the bmc filter has a red edge which isn't noticable on the air box.
worth a look i think

this has been up for sale for a long time was on when i picked up mine.. which was 6months ago..

on the original pictures a remember seeing the driverside seat was very worn through to the extent it was torn.. the angle of the pictures has changed now and you cant see it.

If you do a search im sure its been discussed before.

Hi Tyler,
your ongoing quest to find a coupe continues.... \:\)
I don't like the look of this one and if it's been for sale for 6months at that price, it would suggest that it's a piece of c**p
Keep looking

Got another 4 weeks before I HAVE to have another car. hopefully my quest will end before then!!

Looking at this one next weekend.

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CAR...200735293773314

It needs the Cam Belt service doing, but at that price I can afford to get it done as soon as I have bought it.

It's also on Piston heads.

Looks good, I'd view and put a deposit around asap, good coupes don't last long especially once linked to from here ;\) Also, I'd get it booked in asap at Motormech in Brum for belts and service as he gets busy far in advance \:\)

Ooooh...it's just like mine. Same year, colour, mileage but no sunroof or aircon(must haves IMHO).

How can you tell it doesn't have aircon? Or do you just assume the seller would mention it?

The ad is very brief, maybe he missed it off!?

I'd be very surprised if it had it and the dealeer didn't mention it. It's the most desireable option on the coupe.
