O M G. It's like you can do a stretch conversion on any car, but in most cases you shouldn't. When you jack up the coupe, the doors don't close well, which proves the torsional stiffness is not brilliant. I'm sure with that cut and shut, it's now like a wet lettuce.

I enjoyed driving my Bertone X1/9. The roof was quick and easy to remove, in fact, I could do it whilst waiting for the lights to change. Also found one could drive with the roof removed in rain, provided you stayed above 50 mph.
Living in the sub-tropics, I found the best time to drive "topless" was on summer evenings.
A plus with the X1/9 was that it was built to meet US crash standards, which were later withdrawn, as US manufacturers found them too difficult to meet.
