Always one to praise where its due - I took my father in law to an Experience driving session at DriftLimits at Bovingdon airfield yesterday.

After having driven around aimlessly for while on a previous occasion- as my trusty Google maps and my wifes even less trusty Siri couldn't direct us there -
we found the entrance (to the driving academy) off the A41 just past the Berko exit heading towards aylesbury. At our first visit when they were closed we were not impressed at all as it looked like an old shed in the middle of an abandoned airfield.

How little that first sighting showed us - on the day (yesterday) there was around 20 staff who were extremely helpful - super cars everywhere (from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche and more) and a very organised and timely briefing.

Anyways - just thought I would pass it on if anyone ever wants a good driving 'Experience' in Hertfordshire.

Bit far for me but good to know. What was the driving like. did you go out with an instructor first then get to swap positions? Was it restricted to 5000 rpm or anything like that?

I was only a spectator yesterday - however I did sit in on the briefing and I did ask if there were any restrictions - the reply was NO - none in fact. The cars were fitted with dual controls (brake pedal in the most part) so that if the instructor knew you were over cooking it into the braking zones they would assist to slow you down enough.

But no limits other than what exists on the respective cars by default - no traction control or other driver aids turned on either.

My father in law did not stretch the R8 to its limits - claiming that at 70 years old he enjoyed the time he did have by pootling around lol.

However, there were several other petrolheads remarking that they had red lined their cars at points and a few even had extra laps added if they had been held up by other drivers on warm up laps etc.

The instructors were taking out drivers in an M3 for 4 laps ahead of their 4 lap driving sessions for instruction and top tips.

Extra laps and upgrades obviously available and Insurance excess waiver only cost £20 extra. (avoiding the £1400 insurance excess if you were deemed responsible for any damage whilst you were driving)
