My Alfa (1.6 sportwagon) failed its MOT on exhaust and two tyres, airbag light and one bulb in rear lights. Is £186 reasonable to sort all of this and retest? It includes collecting and delivering the car too. I have already paid £175 for the annual service. The car is running beautifully, never known it be so smooth. It seems a lot to pay out on a car that cost £430, but it is a great car for my dogs, and I love the design of it, the way the dials face towards the driver, and the interior light comes on when you switch off the ignition. Last year there was an advisory of extensive rust underneath, but there is no mention of it this year!

I'd say it was a reasonable price.

Two tyres = £40+ each, depending on make.
Airbag light reset = £30 ish
Bulb = Probably charge around a fiver
Exhaust = Not sure and depends what part of the exhaust has failed.
Retest fee = Anything from free to about £30.
Collecting and delivering probably factored into their price too.

£186 for another year on the road is worth it, especially and hopefully, if nothing else fails on the car.
Has the cambelt been done recently?

Yes Theresa, I got the cambelt done a year or so ago. It's been really reliable and I don't think anything else is on the way out.

better the devil you know. The question should really be, 'can I buy a better car, with a history I know, for £186?'

keep it going, but I suspect rusty floor plan will get you in the end! Have you dared to lift the carpet?
