Hello team,

My 'gf' has a new FIAT 500 and has just had it serviced by an outfit without the proper diagnostic gear to reset the service indicator.

However, it turns out that you don't need diagnostic gear to reset the light- there is supposed to be a way to do it manually.
A quick internet search reveals some nonsense with the key to electrics-on and then depressing the gas pedal 3 times, within a 10 second period.

But this hasn't worked. Does anyone here know 'the truth' about what to do??

Thankyou in advance...

When I got my Grande Punto I read about various "tricks" to reset the service light, none of which worked. So I bought a specific Alfa/Fiat service reset tool which plugs into the OBD socket, which worked fine.

It also supports the new 500 so if you're ever over in Glasgow with the car just drop me a PM.

A similar tool to the one I got is ebay # 122081705782 .

<edit> Actually the one on ebay says it only supports the Fiat 500 from 2007-2010 so maybe it doesn't work on the latest 500's. Maybe http://www.multiecuscan.net would be the way to go if you have suitable cables/laptop.

Hey Jim. I'd be surprised if the info you seek is not in the owner's handbook.

Edited to add, the 2015 manual describes the same procedure you've already mentioned. Sorry, not much help. frown

Quote:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. (do not start the engine.)
2. Fully push the accelerator pedal slowly, three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE:
If the indicator message illuminates when you start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not reset. If necessary, repeat this procedure.

Hey Bern,

Yes, that's what has been tried, but to no avail.

Thanks for looking into that though...
