So, I’ve been mucking around with a car spreadsheet again and I’ve developed it further to allow anyone to calculate the performance of a car EXTREMELY accurately with as fewer items of data supplied as possible. I’ve narrowed it down to up to 38 fields; some of which are not required for certain cars (8 gears, DSG gearboxes etc.) and some of which simply make it slightly more accurate (peak BHP and Torque for example).

So, for a bit of fun (and to test it), I’d like anyone who can supply data for a car they are familiar with and paste the results up so I can run it through the calculator and therefore estimate the performance. The trick bit, is that I don’t want to know what the actual car you’ve supplied data for it is! You can then compare the results with real data and let me know how it compares.

Obviously, it only works if you have actual performance data. Therefore a dyno print from a standard car that has been subjected to an automotive road test would be best.

*I should say that, due to the mystery surrounding drivetrain losses, I use wheel power only. This means that the whole formula is based on the accuracy of the dyno read out.

Vehicle
Surface: Road / Drag Strip
Weather: Dry / Wet
Compound: Road / Sports / Track Day / Slick
Driven Wheels: Front
Weight (kgs): 1310
Weight Distribution (% on front): 68
Wheelbase (inches): 100
Final Drive Ratio: 3.110
1st Gear Ratio: 3.800
2nd Gear Ratio: 2.235
3rd Gear Ratio: 1.520
4th Gear Ratio: 1.156
5th Gear Ratio: 0.914
6th Gear Ratio:
7th Gear Ratio:
Tyre Width (mm): 215
Tyre Profile (%): 40
Tyre Size (inches): 17
Gear change time: 0.3
CD (Co-efficient of drag): 0.32
Frontal Area (feet): 21.6
BHP @ wheels @ 2000 rpm 40
BHP @ wheels @ 3000 rpm 91.3
BHP @ wheels @ 4000 rpm 239.3
BHP @ wheels @ 5000 rpm 315
BHP @ wheels @ 6000 rpm 342.8
BHP @ wheels @ 7000 rpm 348.2
BHP @ wheels @ 8000 rpm
BHP @ wheels @ 9000 rpm
Redline Wheel Power (rpm) 7200
Redline Wheel Power (bhp) 348.2
Peak Wheel Power (rpm) 6500
Peak Wheel Power (bhp) 348
Peak Wheel Torque (rpm) 4501
Peak Wheel Torque (lbs/ft) 330

The above represents the dataset for a circa 400bhp 20vT (hopefully coming to me in September smile ).

I’ve highlighted optional fields in italic. They will help but I can make do without. Have a go then, fill out as much as you can, and then paste it back up on this thread and let’s see what happens. I might even have a go at guessing the car from the stats evil

Excellent work. That's helped me out with some of the info I need for my dyno app smile
Ive still loads more to find yet though.

I'll do it myself then tongue

I've taken it upon myself to collate the number for the upcoming Ford Focus RS (2016). Here are my estimated numbers for when Autocar get it in for their road test in the coming weeks / months. This is for a dry road for the record. Let's see how it compares when they finally get it done.

This is interesting ryan. Do you know where i could attempt to populate this for the aston? It's the standard 4.3 I've got.

I'm surprised how tardy the Focus RS is (or will prove to be...) from 60-100 - almost seven seconds - just goes to show that its decent 0-100 and quarter mile times are down to the 4WD launch and (presumably) lots of electronics

By comparison, my Coupe is doing 60-100 in 4.1

RS is also a bit lacking at the top end - 21 seconds for 100-150 against 9.43 for me

Just goes to show how rapid a modded 15+ year old Coupe can be, for about a third of the cost of the Ford

Trappy - are you sure about the 0-160 figure? - 114 seconds is a monstrous jump from the 33 second 0-150 time - is it really taking 81 seconds to add that last 10mph? - that would be well over three miles shocked

Regardless, I'm looking forward to an "encounter" with one, but I just hope its in a straight line with a rolling start....

It weighs just under 1600kgs and has 345bhp. When tuned it will be interesting but those two numbers, combined with 4wd transmission losses weren't going to set any records...

Good spot. I've checked back on the spreadsheet and quickly realised it was set to 'no short shifting'. This means it was being run to the limiter in 5th and it pretty much gasses. Switch on short shifting and the optimum gear changes are here instead. Updated numbers follow.

I'd still like to see official tests rather than manufacturer's claims. 4.7s seems conservative to me...

I've got these numbers from a road test. I've filled in the red as 'estimated' as only the black numbers were available. The distances are based on this dataset.
