Thought I'd post up my recent experience with coming away from Sky TV as I know previous a fair few here have and gone to freesat freeview etc.

We were paying £55 a month for TV,Internet,Sky go and phone line with movie packages. Not bad compared to some others but too much really to outlay a month.

I've called up to cancel all to go to bt and spoke to retention so and basically offered a reasonable internet package to stay.
£16.40 inc line rental and unlimited broadband and change my Sky hd to freesat.

The interesting thing is now upon request you can keep all recording features without a Sky TV subscription... Previously you had to have a sub or pay £10 a month.

Using different boxes over the years without a doubt Sky recording is far better, intuitive and reliable than other freeview/freesat boxes I've used or seen.i am using an a amstrad box. Loads of humax, you view and others have failed frequently from reports. Plus a used replacement could be had for £25ish..
So if you want to leave Sky and keep recording, request upon cancelling subscription. Should save on buying a new recording box at £100 plus. Channels slightly differ but mostly there.

I believe iplayer is still usable on the sky he box also.

Much happier now saving £40+ a month now my offers have finished.

Hope it helps.

£16.40 is a bargain price but I expect the FREE broadband is capped?

I left years ago. sold the Sky HD box for £50 on ebay and bought a Humax box direct for £100 (Refurbished with warranty). Box seemed brand new and has worked faultlessly but I accept that the GUI is not as intuitive as the Sky interface. The cheapie TV in the bedroom also allows recording of Freeview HD too, through USB.

I keep the broadband moving about and have just taken a new deal with PlusNet Fibre (unlimited) which for the first 12 months is just £22 p/m.

We haven't missed Sky one bit, other than their HUGE bills and nuisance calls. We still record plenty of stuff but loads gets deleted because we now actually choose to watch far less TV than we used to, something which we all agree has been a good thing.

Gone Audi mad!

No capping I believe, but speeds aren't great around here. About 6-7mbps but enough for streaming on two devices most of the time.
We were watching less and less but some stuff we use. Mostly using iPads streaming and have a media pc under the TV. Internet is important to us. The sky go app was good.
£22 for fibre is great also.
Having the ability to use the old sky box, record and cheap replacement if needed is a benefit for us. The lady just wants to record xfactor, celebrity or whatever...

For good freeview apps on iOS I would recommend tvguide and TV player.
