It's been a month since I sold mine because I had too, and there's not a day since that I haven't missed it.
E.g. It was raining steadily one morning recently, and I liked to drive my Coupe in the wet. It was the only time that I really felt there was more power than I could cope with - it's easier to find the handling and braking limits at lower speed in the wet.

I miss the view in the door mirrors - those curvy flanks.

Today I have a work rest day. Normally I'd been Coupe'd up in mid-Wales by now, driving the socks off my Vis.
Instead, I've just finished some diy, prepping some windfall plums (!) and now I'm going to Llangorse lake for a walk, watching the mpg readout in my Scenic for fun. crazy

Has anyone found a way to replace the Coupe in their lives, without buying another one (or car, for that matter)?

Well after 9 years of my Coupe I had a year out of fun cars. Then bought a Z4M Roadster. Cracking car but not as loved as my Coupe was, just more reliable. smile

Nope - not even after buying faster, 'better', and more reliable cars have I ever replaced the coupe. still miss it 6 years on, and keep being tempted to buy another one

One went past me on Tuesday as I walked home. I've never liked them, and still don't. Too small.

Well, I got an indicated 43 mpg from the 1600 petrol Scenic on the 70 mile round trip. Which I'm ok with.
I spent six hours around the lake and up on the hills, which was lovely - fresh, quiet, and oh do beautiful.
But none of it was exciting.

Fate dictated that my Coupes new owner text yesterday too, asking more Q's about it.
He's loving the car, had improved it already, driven it on long journeys, and has a visit to the paint shop planned in the winter.

So, at least my Coupe us better off.

Which is cool

Got a Maserati 3200GT. Similar but bigger curvy flanks in mirrors. More power than you can cope with in the wet or dry. Best not to attempt to find any handling limits frown. Missing the Coupe though - it's (still) being restored & when it returns will take over again as the daily driver.

How you getting on with the 3200 Wink? Love the idea of getting one but despite my best efforts with the application of some Man Maths, coupled with my fear of how ruinous they could be, I'm always put off.

Coupe now sold!

The Maser is a great car. Just beautiful from every angle IMO. And real fun to drive - the rush of power is stonking, especially in Sport mode. It feels special, and of course you get to know the local petrol station staff really well smile. It's more Italian all round than the Coupe - irritating warning lights tend to pop on randomly, but none of them have been important. Easily sorted with an OBD2 reader and an iphone app - I've even cleared the error codes whilst sat at traffic lights! Actually I reckon most problems are to do with the fly by wire throttle - I've replaced both ends with modern contactless systems and not had any further trouble. Still want the Coupe back though, it's much more practical as an everyday car.

The new owner has text me some pics now he's polished the body and the lights.
He's got new badges on order, and has replaced the boot seal and expansion tank bottle.
It looks fantastic.

And I found the second locking wheel bolt adaptor in my flower bed while gardening this afty - it must've rolled off of the drive while I was fettling it.
More beer needed now to get over the torment!

i know what you mean.
I still have mine but thinking of putting it on hold and placing it in a heated garage for the next 2 years.
I've spend so much money on it ever since i bought it that its come to the point that i am scared to drive it due to the normal assurance i got running on it. if i ever do have a accident with it i would get nothing from it money wise whilst i have been investing a easy 3000 euro's already in it.
not including buying the car. I have a MoT coming up and of course the coupe had to act up and break 2 wheel bolts on me while i was changing the wheels. i am now finding myself struggling to get the car in order before the MoT runs out so I've been thinking of just putting here on blocks, shutting down the assurance on here and removing here of the road. Leave here in the garage for 2 years and when he's 20, she would get a complete redone engine, body and suspension. However, just the thought of not having here near me, the idea of not being able to drive it for 2 years is killing me.

thats not going to do it any good.

engines, especially Italian ones of this era, need to be turned over. I wouldn't give mine more than a fortnight without a run.
Long term storage? sure- but you'll need to be able to turn it over at least once a month to keep everything fluid, so to speak- even if the car doesn't roll.

Best way to get over the loss of ownership? Find something else. I'm always tempted by a cinquecento like this-

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201509056641108?postcode=eh91st&sort=default&model=cinquecento&radius=1500&quicksearch=true&make=fiat&search-target=usedcars&page=1&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&logcode=p

which would just be hilarious and real fun all over again. If I could find one in that metallic blue/violet, I'd be in trouble!

I gave up Coupe ownership 2nd time around in 2001 and it was tough- there really is nothing else like them... So after 14 years, I had to get another...

(3200 GT great if you can get a later car- drive-by-wire throttle sender can be a bit challenging and the V8 brings it to 'cheaper' Ferrari servicing complexity)

I looked at buying a LHD coupe to run over here, I've only seen one broom yellow coupe on the road. The logistics of keeping it running was too difficult, no parts, no specialists and no dealer support so I moved on to VAG.
I have a Scirocco R which is superb, a really good fun coupe which is surprisingly practical, this would make a great coupe replacement for anyone wanting to keep the fun of a high power FWD 2 door coupe.

I also have an Audi RS5 which is surprisingly impractical but a Flippin amazing car.

The Scirocco goes tonight, I gave her a last clean and polish last night, it's being replaced with a VW Touareg.....yawn.

I wanted an Audi A5- I just kept looking at those lines across the rear quarters.
Now I'm a Coupe owner again- the desire has almost completely gone!

A coupe in Dubai wouldn't be THAT tough surely? It's not like they are 'super' exotic and this forum is a resource!

Its amazing how many of us (me included!) are on their second Coupe so they are not an easy thing to replace. Obviously funds at your disposal are the limiting factor - I may well be moving on myself shortly - Just cannot shake off the urge for a Brera S but I'm going to have to double the value of my LE for that. For cheap thrills I'd be very much tempted by a Panda 100HP. The X1/9 is not exactly a Coupes' baby bro'. Different breed of car but still fun!

You're right, it's not impossible but it's also not practical. Most garages here have what I would class as unskilled workers, that goes for main dealers and back street garages alike, there will be one skilled guy in a workshop of unskilled workers. I've seen first hand the bodge work and lies they tell.

The RS5 has the extra flared arches over the standard A5 and lines which are stiff competition for the Coupe. Obviously this is a coupe forum so I'm never going to win that argument but I was a coupe owner for many years and appreciate them both.

interesting and terrifying...

Yes, I'm sure the RS5 will be able to handle thermal management issues better than a 15 year old FIAT.

Sounds like you need to go further to find a decent garage though! There's some pretty exotic stuff in Dubai- somebody must be able to help you...

After throwing some £25k at my beautiful, stunning Electric Blue Plus i made the grave error of letting her go cheap - i thought i could replace everything she gave me with added reliability by following the tried and tested BMW M3 route. My M3 was mapped to some 356bhp and the performance was awesome and safe, all the mod-cons on a car you could wish for and totally unbreakable - not to mention the SMG box is a fantastic bit of kit.

However that's now gone and i find myself behind the wheel of a less than awesome Fiesta diseasel frown
I very nearly got back into Coupé ownership recently, i managed to scrape enough together to buy Nazo's stunning Moonie but missed out by a fortnight cry
So for now my motoring is crap - but although i missed and loved my car, and was extremely excited at the prospect of owning Nazo's, it's the people i met that made it special. The Spa trips, the shows, the convoys, the local meets and the laughs......irreplaceable imo

Will i keep looking? Yes, but it will have to be something special to get me hooked on the actual car again - like Nazo's is...........to be continued....?

Simple answer; keep it.

I've had mine for over 11 years now. When I bought it, I was barely able to maintain it on the money I earnt back then. Then, 6 years later, I split up with the ex and had a 3 year period of having next to no disposable income. The car fell into a terrible state of disrepair - it truly was a complete shed of a thing.

Smashed up on three occasions by careless drivers while stationary or parked, the suspension was old and knackered, the turbo died a death, the paint was faded / peeling - you might have called it 'beyond the state of economic repair' and then some! However, it simply wasn't worth for selling it to make sense. I'm also a stubborn bastard and when I used to tell the old cow that "you'll have your day one day" I bleeding well meant it.

£15k spent in the last three years on modifications and preventive or reactive maintenance items, with another £6k planned in the next year, and I love it more than ever!

I'm now in a position where I could sell it and buy something worth a lot more but I like being able to constantly do 'the big things' while the maintenance is, in the scheme of thing, peanuts. Engines and gearboxes are only a few hundred quid, brakes are cheap compared to cars that wouldn't touch it in performance.

It now doesn't matter what goes wrong, I just fix it and I can now do all those tried and tested modifications that, years ago, I could only watch others doing.

And the best bit? I bought the car when it was totally standard and have done it all myself. I know every mod, why it went on, when it went on, how much pain that mod caused (in some cases) and what difference each of them made.

Sure, it's easier to go and buy someone elses hard and expensive work but, for me, sticking with it through thick and thin and doing it all yourself (well paying for it to be done yourself oin most cases!) just makes it all that much more rewarding.

F****** b****** thing...

sounds like a real success story- a rags to riches transition

there's a book in there I think- or a dedicated blog

Isle of Wight,
Most desirable cars go through a period of being cheep scrappy cars before either emerging as classics where their value starts to climb, or disappearing completely. The reason they go up in value is not just their rarity but also because the ones that do survive have all had very expensive work done. Take my '68 Aston DBS, once the unloved and cheapest Aston of all, but now values are rising daily whilst the DB7 can be easily found for under £20K. Any DBS on the road will have had a lot of money spent on it by now but most DB7s have had none and are in need of it. We are now getting to the point where any Coupe on the road and looking smart is only there because it has had major work done, but I don't see this being reflected in values yet. My Coupe is now at that point where I wonder whether to go forward or give up. I've just spent £500 on the wheels and about £1200 on the suspension. And now the paint is breaking down, the A/C hasn't worked for years. Every area of the car is starting to show it's 100,000 miles. The question is, will those who still hanker after a Coupe be prepared to part with £10-15K to buy a restored one, or will folks assume they will never have to pay more than £3-4000 for one. If values don't go up, it would be better to move on.
If I did move on, I would say the obvious replacement would be an Audi TT 2l Turbo, or having now driven so much in my wife's Prius, a Honda CR-Z

I think a good car to hold on to now would be a mk1 honda civic type r
I had a renault 5 gt turbo not so long ago and it was a nice clean one but struggled to get 750 for it
Now it would be easy 2k
I didn't buy my coupe to sell it for a profit
I just always wanted one and can honestly say there something special about it
I'm a auto technician and drive alot of cars day to day and find all the new stuff boring clones
