Car stereo theft…and car theft #1479917

Does anyone else remember when this was a big deal and being paranoid about having it stolen?

Also, car theft, it used to be huge, panic stations whenever you left the car..

So what's the deal with increasing insurance cost year on year these days? What's the justification? Anyone know?

Perhaps if the insurance companies spent less of our money paying for endless adverts we'd get a better deal….

Thoughts anyone?

The central locking on my Metro has stopped working. The car has a decent stereo too, way more valusable than the car (which admittedly is not hard).

I had a theft a few weeks ago. Can of deodorant and two 50pence coins as my emergency car park stash, taken from my glovebox. Guess i will now need to leave that ajar frown

Well if you go through an Accident Management Company because your insurance company is to inept to sort it out, then yes smile

You know I never see adverts for car insurance over here and nor did I in Turkey. The costs must surely arise each year from the endless and mind numbingly stupid adverts these guy's use to try and outcompete each other? They are on TV, in the press, in magazines, on the radio, et al. Ad to this the creatives cost, production cost, so on. They are feeding the British public a load of baloney …. in my opinion of course. smile

There's a story somewhere else about Audi RS4s (2006/7 era) being written off because they've had their seats stolen and the replacement cost of these items is £19k due to the no longer being available off the shelf but as a kit of parts to then be assembled.

That sort of madness won't help.

This. Far more equipment to be damaged and more expensive equipment. Xenon headlights, fancy wing mirrosr with indicators and puddle lights the list is endless

Also with more and more airbags if they trigger there is much more to replace.

Yep that's completely true I'm afraid. The seats aren't made anymore and they were expensive in the first place. Audi have to make them especially and insurance don't like paying nearly the value of the car to kelp it going. Lots of unfortunate owners but the cars back and put in some Other VAG seats.

Got it one Begbie! That and the "crash for cash" scams.

Be very careful out there folks and watch for someone with a car full of people getting too close to your rear bumper.

I've fitted the car with an "insurance camera" that records both front and rear views at once for that very reason. haven't had to use it yet thankfully, although it is funny reviewing some of the crap driving you see out there! laugh

Car stereos: with coding and the more modern cars having them part of the CAN BUS system they become useless the moment they are parted from their own vehicle. Plus the "unique fit" systems that are part of the dashboard make things even more difficult. Plus the market for them means they just don't fetch what they used to and the "fences" don't want them now. They are more interested in copper cabling and scrap metal, road signs etc....

Just my tuppence worth smile

erm....my insurance premiums seem to be going through the floor every year right now......must be the benefits of getting old.

But not as old as Stan, of course.
